I have the 6500 and I can only think of one reason NOT to buy the QC.. You don't have enough time to quilt everything you see... Chrys

Isn't that the problem with every yummy machine and life, Chrys? Seriously - another site states difficulty stippling due to lack of ability to control bobbin tension. I can't do this on my Elna, but haven't had any problem stippling. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

Donno...never heard that...I can do it on my 10000 and 6500 with ease, NO tension problems...is the site NON Janome ??? I find that people who own one brand of machine will only sitck up for that machine and put others down and make up 'facts' not in evidence...

I understand. The site was a general discussion. Thanks.

Thanks, Jan. I don't know if stores in England have 'points' for everything under the sun, but every store (except fabric, of course) here in Canada seems to and they all seem to require carrying a plastic card. The cards plus the fact that Canada now has $1 and $2 coins make one's purse weigh a ton - and I never seem to have enough points for anything I want - except at the drug store where I never want anything! Most of my points this year have gone to disaster relief. I wish more went for air miles. At any rate I have enough points at one store to get a Janome 6260 if I cough up $500 which seems a good deal to me- and I get the extension table free. The local Janome dealership has the machine on sale for $1000 this week. I do like the features on the quilters companion and the size and I keep hearing great things about Janomes. It will be a change from a dyed in the wool Elna sewer who is not impressed with my latest machine. Amazing how far back some of these discussions go! I did get the Janome 6260. I am slowly but surely getting used to what all the bells and whistles do and which buttons to push and not push. It came with many feet, including a special quilting package of feet. It does not have a stitch in the ditch foot, which I thought it would have. I went to the Janome web site and found one that is available. I have an aquaintence that has a Kenmore Janome and she bought the stitch in the ditch foot but doesn't like it. Any body with any comments on this before I buy one? I don't know what the other woman's problem was, except she is not a very experienced sewer. I have read all the manual, etc. and cannot see that the needle position can be changed. This is the first sewing machine I have ever had that couldn't do this. Am I missing something? Overall I am liking the machine but can't imagine using all the botton hole stitches. I prefer to hand make button holes. On another note I treated myself to a Singer Featherweight which came to life on my birth month and year! A Featherweight was my first machine when my grandmother gave me hers. It literally went around the world with me. I forgot how small it is! My daughter wants me to go to Toronto and make her curtains for all her windows and while I thought I could rent a machine (?) I may be able to take the FW on as carry on! Merry Christmas to all ! *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

The only reason I can think of not to buy that machine is if you don't have good local dealer support. I no longer carry Janome but it has nothing to do with the quality of their products. There are a lot of good machines on the market. Just make sure you feel comfortable with the selling dealer. Ask about classes. Ask to see the classroom. Find out how long the dealer has been in business. Find out if they service the machines locally. If you are satisfied with all the answers you will probably love the machine.
Have fun or don't do it, Tom

I should have read all the posts more closely before I responded. I do not recall any complaints on the Janome stitch in the ditch foot and I do have a good number of customers using it. Ask the dealer to let you try it out on one of his/her machines before you buy. It should only take you a few minutes to decide if you like it or not. Have fun or don't do it, Tom

I have the Janome 10000 and love it! I have a foot that I mostly use for edge stitching, but I'm pretty sure it's also the stitch in the ditch foot (at least I've used it that way) and I have no complaints at all, so I could highly recommend it. I'm not familiar with the Janome model you bought, but Janome is a good brand. If I remember correctly, my Janome 8000 didn't have the ability to change the needle position either, but the 10000 does and I really like that feature. Maybe some features aren't available on your model because it's mostly intended for quilters? I'm just sort of thinking out loud here..... Happy Sewing! |

Hi Sandy -Thanks for your response. The foot number does not have a letter. It is not a Memory Craft Machine, rather it is a Janome Quilters machine - the number is 200305004. I am currently phoning around town to find it. Apparently it is pretty common. Thanks also, Tom. I did buy the machine, but not from the local Janome dealer, which is also the Elna dealer. I have had several from them but will not use them for servicing or purchasing again d/t past experiences and reputation. I do have several good servicing services available to me, but they do not carry an inventory of parts. Happy Holidays to all! *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

I did not see this the first time I looked on the Janome site. The "Ditch" sewing foot for the MC9700 among other Janome machines is the letter "S". Thanks for bringing this foot to my attention. I learn so much just by reading these posts. The possibilities are endless! Sandy |

Nancy, your part number is the same number for the "S" foot..I always look at the foot itself for the letter.....the feet have the letters on the top of the foot where you would attach it to the shank. Sandy. |

I have a Kenmore (janome) sewing machine ( year 1992) and Now a Janome 4800QC My feet work with both sewing machines, in fact the two are much like other then the Janome is computerised, and offers more stiches. drop the dogs, and use the free moton foot, and work on as many stiches as you can that are pre-programed before walking out of the store.. Just make sure it all works! I do know that buying some feet on E-bay is not always the way to go ( esp. the walking feet) But if the prices is lower try the sears web site for sewing machine feet if the janome feet are too high.. ( I havent' checked into this yet) but they do work side by side from each other. who is also in the market for Janome feet ( including the ditch foot) DB

I just posted on the other thread here about the Kenmore feet. They are for the Janome machines but you have to be sure to order the correct type, which the free brochure is specific about. If your machine has a top loading bobbin and horizontal spool pin or is a vertical bobbin machine. The feet are usually wider for the H feet and narrower for the V feet. Your machines with the wider zig zag that the newer horizontal bobbin machines have cannot usually use the vertical bobbin feet because the needle will hit the foot when using the wider zig zag. Sears also has E feet for embroidery machines. The Kenmore (Janome) brochure has a 4 foot offer now for only $25 that I just purchased it is number 6702 and is called Open toe feet with ditch foot. It includes the open toe quilting foot and quilting bar, open toe darning foot and open toe craft foot and ditch quiting foot. You cannot beat this price. There is a similar offer for vertical bobbin machines called the Quilting attachment set with different feet and not open toe has no ditch foot but has a 1/4 in. seam foot. |
