Hi, I am making baby blankets. In the store they have either satin or some type stretch fabric. What is the stretch fabric binding? Valerie

The stretch binding is usually used for knits. If you are making blankets out of flannel or cotton and want to use a ready made binding, I'd use either cotton or the satin.

Valerie,

When I've made baby blanket what bind them with depends on what I made them with. If I used a woven fabric, cotton, flannel, or pre-quilted I usually used the satin binding (babies love satin).

Now I've used knit, (4-way stretch cotton/lycra) to bind a fleece blanket. And you could probably try other knits to bind knit and/or fleece style blankets.

I think the point is that you probably want to keep like fabrics together when binding, not positive! Just been my experience on doing them, that way a knit binding is causing a woven blanket to bunch and/or pucker or visa versa ... unless someone has a really good technique to share :bg:

I've started making my own bindings by watching for small print or striped flannels or cotton fabrics or using remnants from my own stash. It adds a nice touch using the prints.

I have made a couple of blanket for my new GS this past year. I have used 100% cotton flannel fabric and the Wright's satin binding. I will sew a 1/2" hem along the longer sides of the blanket (after I've serged it all around to prevent fraying), then I attach the satin binding to the shorter sides. Corners are a pain, but I'm getting better!
