I recently purchased a used Janome 9000. I have never had a computerized machine or done any type of embroidery. I do not understand what software I need. I know there is the Customizer 2000 with Reader/writer, and you can purchase, the Amazing box II, and cards with designs in the SEW format.

So far, correct me if I'm wrong, the Customizer is for making my own, and copying anything like clip art or pictures etc and digitizing it for embroidery. The amazing box will allow me to spend a fortune on cards and convert anything to the SEW format I need.

I bought the machine on Ebay from a dealer, so no training, I've done well with the Floral card that was included. Obviously, if you sew and love to, that won't be enough to keep me excited for long. But I Could use some assistance, I hate buying things that I really dont need.

I do mainly bridal work, custom made flower girls, bridesmaid dresses. I would like to be able to add borders to necklines, or hemlines. What software do I really need. Someone please help me understand what each product is for, and what acessories I should purchase?

I have the 9000 and have the customizer 2000 along with the reader/writer and 1 card to write to. I also have embird to convert and resize designs I d/l off the internet. The only thing I use customizer for is to transfer the designs from my computer to the card.

I highly recommend embird. :)

Customizer is ONLY that...for customizing sew format designs and transfering them to your machine.

If you want to MAKE your own designs, you need DIGITIZER. Digitizing is just that, copying designs, assigning stitches, MAKING designs for your machine.

You will need software to unzip patterns from the internet ( winzip ).
To convert patterns that AREN'T sew, you need embird or buzztools. ( I use buzzxplore/buzztools, many like embird better.)

If you have a local Janome dealer I would ask about classes and help. (don't tell them you got the machine off Ebay...tell them it was a present or something....)
www.clubj.onlinesewing.com owned by Jim Stutsman a Janome dealer.
He has all the answers to all the machines and is more than happy to help.
$49. a year (site dues) There are also LOTS of Janome sites in Yahoo for info.
