I've been working on a pair of jeans, from scratch. I copied my pants to make a pattern and don't have instructions, so I'm constantly opening my pants to figure out how they did that fly! I'm a little prone to mistakes because of that, gaining hindsight by the minute. Well, I made a very nice placket and got the zipper in fine. It all looks great. There's of course just one problem. I did not place the zipper low enough. So, once I apply the waistband/yoke, the very zipper stop at the top would be _in_ the yoke!! Well, is that ok? I'm quit tempted to stitch (tiptoe) gingerly around the top stop and then hand tack my own top stop with thread, right below the yoke. What do you think, folks?

I think it's a good idea if you are not cutting off too much zipper. If it is half an inch or less it is probably fine. I don't think I would cut off much more than that. Well maybe you can if you are smallish. Dorothy |

It's not too much zipper space to lose--the zipper really needed to be shortened anyway. I was wondering if it's ok to let the extra at the top get sewn into the yoke. Can you stitch right past that?

You mean inside or on the outside so it shows? Dorothy |

I planned to encase the top of the zipper in the seam allowance of the yoke. It wouldn't show. I just need to know if it's possible to sew past.

Sew over the zipper? I wouldn't try over a metal one but a plastic one -- sure. I'd trim it close after though so it's not kinda pokey when you move around or bend over. Dorothy |

IF it's a metal zipper just remove the teeth with a pair of pliers that would be inside the band... You can also take the stoppers off and move them down to where you need the slider to stop.. Not a big deal.. |

Jo-Anne, thanks for your encouragement, b/c it was when I read your post that I finally got back into the sewing room. I yanked and pulled with the pliers and just could not get the teeth to come off! But I had new determination. I just snipped them right off, leaving the rest of the zipper tape to get sewn into the seam allowance. The waistband looks great. These pants look fantastic.
