Hi again  I am currently trying to make a faux fur cushion for my daughter and i'm having problems!!! :nc: I am using a zigzag stitch and on the top side of the fabric it looks fine.....underneath the stitch is all loose, so I unpicked all the stitching and adjusted the tension. I decided to try on a scrap of the fur so i wouldnt have to unpick again and the stitching turned out fine on both sides. Then, when i tried on the fur that i am using for the cushion the stitching became loose again. I havent changed the tension and the scrap fabric is exactly the same as the fabric i am using....where am i going wrong!! :nc:

Did you use 2 layers of scrap? That will make a difference in your stitches.

Why are you using a zig-zag stitch ??? If the fur DOESN'T stretch you can use a straight stitch....If the fur DOES stretch...use your walking foot (if you have one) and make the stitches closer together...

I folded the scrap over the same thickness as what i am trying to sew. The fur is slightly stretchy so i just assumed a zig zag would be best....hmmm i think i am going to try with the straight and see if that makes any difference...thanks for your help!

Okay after hours of this ..... :coffee: and this ..... :bang: last night i found out where i was going wrong! :whacky: First of i re-threaded the upper thread to make sure it wasnt that...no joy, still the same problem. I'd already tested out the tension, so i knew it wasnt that...I then re-wound the bobbin, just to check. Nope wasnt that. I was just about to give up when i realised i had been so preoccuipied with the tesion and threading i kept forgetting to put the foot down! Duh! I put the foot down and finished the cushion last night with out any problems at all  I cant believe it was something so simple that i kept over looking :whacky:

I always forget to raise the feed dogs after cleaning between projects.

Thats soo funny! I have done that exact same thing. I even made my mother drive to my house (35 miles away) to look at it and tell me what was wrong after trying everything for hours! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has done it!
