Well Dorothy and Toto came through here about 2:30 AM. She wasn't very nice either!!!! I just love bolting upright in bed when TWO VERY LARGE branches (30" round x 25-30' long) decided that they didn't want to stay on the trees anymore, thanks to 40+ mph winds, they like my garage better I guess. They missed hitting three cars on our side of the fence, but there are branches laying on my backyard neighbors car. The fence actually stopped them from doing further damage. They buckled the roof and the support beams on the inside of the garage. We can't open the garage door and my DD's b'day present to her hubby is in there. We have until next Thursday to get it out.
I hope that we don't get a run around from the Homeowners Ins., they don't want us to even move the tree branches UNITL the claims adjuster gets here to see it first hand, and that could be as early as next week!!!!! I don't think I could move them even if I wanted too!!!

We had the high wind last night too. It took out a tree right down from us and took all the power lines with it. This happened about 3:30 am. We didn't get power back until 9:30 am.

Well the Claims Adjuster was here this PM. He is sending out a contractor in the AM to give quotes on the tree removal and repairs to the roof and support beams of the garage. He didn't even bat an eye. All we have to do is pay the deductible ( $250.00) and the Ins will take care of the rest (then most likely hike up our monthly premiums). In the 13 years we have lived here, this is our first Ins claim.

I wish I had a pair of red shoes and hose that I could put under one of the branches on the ground to take a pic for the Ins man. He seems like the kind of guy who would like a good joke.

Thats Ok...we have NEVER had a claim on our home owners Ins. (in the 10 yrs we've lived here in our first home and have had it) we've been through countless hurricanes....our Ins was $200, 10 yrs ago...it's now nearly a thousand a yr....and we've been informed that if we make a claim, it goes up 20% and on top of that, they gave us a list of things we can't claim anymore.
All our hurricane damage was paid for by us...Ins never knew....but because we live in FL, we get stuck anyway. (we're lucky...we still HAVE Ins...some people get cancelled the first time they make a claim..like my neighbor across the street..her house was hit by lightening, fried all electrical stuff, burned her kitchen floor (it came through the window). Ins paid then cancelled her...and in FL more Ins companies are leaving every day, because of all the claims...that leaves 'us' with weirdo's and fly-by-nights).

To top it all off...if you've never had a home and homeowners Ins before....almost no one will sell you any...so forget about buying a home (providing you can afford one....)

Well the tree removal guys where here, totally worthless as far as I'm concerned. One of the guys finally showed up Friday at 8PM to get the big branch off the roof of the garage. They where to be back here on Saturday and never showed up. They show up today at 9AM and take all but one of the big branches, it's torpedoed into the ground in my back yard, but the top is laying up against the backyard neighbors garage roof. When I asked him why he wasn't taking that his reply was, "it's on their roof". BUT- I told him the majority of the tree is still in MY YARD, it's only leaning on her roof!!!!
So now I have to get with the Ins Claims adjuster to get this mess out of here.
The only good news today was that it didn't do any damage to her grandsons car that was parked under all the branches. Funny that they would clean up that mess, which was far worse, BUT they wouldn't clean up the easier one!!!

MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will have to replace, 10-12 support beams, put a new roof on, fix a window that was jarred, tork the alignment of the whole garage. The thing was built in the 1940's I'm suprised that it's standing at all!!!

Oh yeah, we have had various tree removal services out here to give us a estimate on removing the trees, they all say the same thing. The trees where hit by lighting. It hit the first tree, closest to the house arched to the second tree and then bolted to a metal pole that is on the neighbors yard, split is in half!!!! We where lucky with that last one as my DH's truck sits just inches away from the pole and fence it stopped at.
