Howdy everyone. Well I just got finished repairing an evening dress for my new neighbor, tomorrow is home coming here in Bastrop and she was able to get a bargain dress that needed mending so I did that for her. It made me feel wonderful to sew again. I also bought some gold fabric and I'm making her a little evening bag to go with her dress as a surprise. Yesterday morning I left Bastrop and headed down toward New Orleans. I didn't go into the city but went just across the lake where we are moving. We are now the proud owners of 6.50 acres of land in Wilmer, La, actually it's a Kentwood address, (you know Kentwood, where Brittney Spears is from) but the community I am going to live in is called Wilmer. It's on the street we wanted to move on to begin with, so I'm really excited about that. After going to the attorney's office and signing the papers we went to the property to walk it off, that is the first time I saw this perticular piece of property but I must say Raymond did a very good job of picking it out......... I love it!!!! My neighbors are so nice, we meet some yesterday and one other I knew already. I'm in love!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to start clearing a spot for the pond and my water fall. Oh yes I have big plans. LOL Then I left there and headed to my sister in law's house in Hattiesburg Ms. so I could spend the night there it was almost dark by the time we finished talking and making plans and I didn't want to come all the way back to Bastrop alone after dark which is about 5 hours drive from Wilmer. That was the first time in four weeks I've seen my husband and both of us were talking so fast we couldn't think of everything we needed to say to one another. LOL The little black bugs we call love bugs because they are stuck together are horrible the farther south you get. My sister in law had them so bad at her house her porch was black because of them. I'm going into Chalmette Saturday, I have my rubber boots and gloves and masks ready and I have a lot of paper towels and newspaper to wrap my fragiles in until we can get them out of storage we are just going to box them up. I am very fortunate to have most of my things unhurt from the water. I'm sure there are going to be things I can't save but Raymond and my son Raymond tells me my house is amazingly better off then all of Chalmette. Maybe it was the angels I left of my Mother's that were crocheted on my piano. I left them on purpose. Also, the police kicked in my door like everyone elses there to check for dead bodies, so I'm afraid people will go in and help themselves if they see we are not there soon. My friend sent me pics of her house and it's terrible, I'm so lucky not to have any more damage then I have. Raymond's garage of course is down it collapsed I guess because it's made of all metal and no inside walls except for 3. His garage was a hugh warehouse almost, so it's a big loss. All his compressors and welders are ruined but his old car is here with me so that was good. All his plaques he won at shows went underwater that was sad. I'll keep in touch. I'll let you all know how i make out Saturday. We have a truck and two storage places rented until we find out what we are going to put on the property. I want to go home so bad. Talk to you all later. Hugs susie I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Good Morning everyone. Mary I am a little better now, Pulling out the sewing machine makes me feel so much better and especially when I sat here last night with my cd player in my ears while everyone slept and I could just sew and listen to my music...........before I knew it...........it was 2:30AM and time to call it quits. The grandkids woke me up this morning at 7:00AM so I'm going to jump back in my hole for a little while but I'll keep in touch with everyone. After all that running around yesterday i came home so excited, I went to the grocery on the way in town and came home and fixed dinner. I'm pumped up now..........I want to get started working my way back to normal..........well let's put it this way, as normal as I was before. ROFLMAO Dorothy, That pool will be dug as soon as I get my life straighten out. It gets too hot here in the summer not to have a wet hole to cool off in. It's not a luxury in the south it's a neccesity almost. Shurrrrr at least that is what I tell Raymond. Love ya all. you gals are the very thing that kept my sanity through all this so keep in touch. Hugssssss XXXOOOO I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Good luck to you, Susie. You certainly deserve something good. I have thought a lot about you and many others in similar situations. My friend in Kenner has her house, but has to re-do everything and lost all of her furniture. She still could keep a lot of her belongings, and I think those are the things most people cherish throughout life. They are just things, but they hold lots of memories. Having your family and friends safe is the most important of all. May God bless you. Shirley Clark |

MOLD MOLD EVERY WHERE!!!!!!!!!!! I've been to the land of Mold, I was able to salvage about 99 % of my stash, it will need washing several times but it's in good shape. No water actually got to the fabric it was all in plastic containers. I lost one drawer of fabric that was in one of those plastic chest of drawers the drawers were too low to the floor and water got in them. All the other fabric was in deep containers and were high and dry. My dining room furniture, my china cabinet and my table were full of mold so we didn't try to get those. We were afraid the mold smell would be in our new house so we left it there. My bedroom set also was the same way. I left all my towel and face cloths hubby made me leave them. I think the reason the fabric was okay it was sealed in plastic containers and kept the mold out. I saved all my small appliances except for my roaster it was on the floor under the shelf but that's okay I saved so much. All the living room furniture was covered in mold also. I can still smell the mold. My ex-daughter in law that is here with me also went to her and my sons house and they couldn't say anything, they couldn't even get in the door of the house, we had to knock down the door. There is orange circles on every house in the parish marking weather or not there is anyone dead inside or if there is any dead animals found and the date of the find and the initals of the people who did the inspection of the house. My Mother's house is a total loss also. Her roof came off and you can see daylight from the kitchen. I was able to get her spoon collection out and a few plates she got from all over the world and that was it. It will be demolished with the rest of Chalmette. No one stepped on any nails in our bunch or needed CPR or anything from the shock of it all but we are all still in amazement of the whole place, it looked like a bomb went off and all the life of the place is over with. If the parish rebuilds it will take at least 5 years to look anything like the town it once was if not longer. Gotta go and relax. The last two days have been very tiring. Hugs to all. I took 6 rolls of film while I was down there but when I got to my house I was so excited to see what I had left I didn't get any pics. The army came by and brought us water and MRE's so we'd have food while we were there. My sons told me they have been eating them for the last three weeks while there are working down there and the food isn't bad. Hubby hadn't, he just eats the snacks out of them the boys leave. LOL Hugs to you all. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Thanks everyone for the thumbs up. I think I'm on the way to recovery now that I'm finished with Chalmette. The sights we saw were incredable. Cars on top of houses and each other, The streets were covered in mud and the only traffic you had to watch for was the tractors trying to scrap the mud off the streets. My DIL and i went to her house twice, the first time we went we went without the men and couldn't get in but we knocked a crack in the door with the bottom of my foot, (I kicked the door open) so we could see inside the living room and she had a mantel over the top of her living room and kitchen about 10 feet high, with all kinds of bottles and deco up there and her blender that was on the kitchen counter was sitting up on top of the mantel just like if she set it up there herself. Then she had a stingray beer bottle we got in Grand Caymen when we went on the cruise, that was turned up on it's drinking end and sitting up there like she placed it that way upside down. We didn't see any snakes but we did see lots of mosquitos.........worse then ever. Also when we headed home we came back another way and we couldn't believe what we saw across the lake, Lake Pontchatrain. There were just piles of wood stacked as high as you can see for miles down the highway. What was all the homes that was there. Mostly camps and then we cut through a higher class neighborhood with really high dollar homes and they were reduced to rubble also. People were out there rummaging through their things seeing what was left of their homes. Really sad for the ones that are older and it's harder to make a come back. I will get through this I have no doubt. And I will be stronger in the end. I'm getting excited about getting my property fixed up and ready to move HOME!! Hugs to all of you and as soon as I get some pics developed I'll try to post them so everyone can see what I did yesterday. Love ya Susie I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Jan, My SIL has a pool and she told me this, if a dog dives in a pool the first thing he does is relieve his bladder,,,,,,yuckkkkk No Dogs allowed, I hadn't thought about that before. ROFLMAO I've heard from the SBA people. They inspected our property and we can expect to hear from them soon he said. He told me it was a total loss. As for me, I'm doing okay except for the lack of sleep and my back killing me from this mattress I'm sleeping on . I think that is the first thing I'm going to replace is the bed. I'll keep in touch. Susie, I can only imagine the heart wrenching sites you've seen by going home. Mold is a definite problem and it was a good move to just leave everything that was covered in it! So glad you were able to save as much as you did though. Time to move on and your new area sounds wonderful! I'm sure you'll be thrilled to move "home" again! Glad all are safe and sound.

We have our Hurricane shutters up & I'm getting our stuff together to head out at some point. Where to, were not sure. We have the whole state to go through to get out of her way. This is a real bad one again. We're only taking one car so won't get to take all I want. Hope to take one machine & one serger & iron. A couple of quilts my mom made. We can't leave early as DH has to be here for the county. We're 5 min. from the Gulf & have lakes behind the back yard & other side of the street. In a bad area for this. Please keep all the people in mind that will be hit by Wilma. Sure hope we don't get flooding & our home is here & fine when we return. If not we'll start over again just like Susie & everyone else that has to. I'll be so sad to lose all we've worked hard for & my mom's antiques but that's life. You have to roll with the punches. |

Thank you everyone. We were told to leave by Sunday at 8 a.m. but now they are thinking Monday. This one seems harder to predict when it will get here. Will have to wait until it gets out in the gulf. I have some things packed up & more to go. If our dd & hubby go ,think they will, then they are taking their truck so we can take more. Like their tools & etc. I knew I had lots of thread but already have a huge container full & more to go. That's not even counting all the serger thread. Why didn't it look like that much in the thread drawers ? Yes, the sewing stuff is being packed up first. A lot will have to stay for sure. I'll keep ya'll informed to let you know when we are leaving. Don't know yet where we'll end up as there is no vacancys from here through South Carolina. We're hoping Wilma just fizzles out. |

Hello everyone. We just got our electric back on this afternoon. We weathered ole Wilma. Was scary for awhile there but we're all fine. Our home is fine, no damage to it at all. We did lose our fence, a huge weeping bottle brush tree, a huge ponytail palm & some smaller plants. Our 2 huge royal palms are fine but lost most all the fronds so look like huge concrete poles in the front yard. The smaller ones down by the lake is fine. We are so lucky. We stayed at my DD's home that is a little more inland than we are. They made it through just fine also. Naples & most all of Collier CO. is a mess. Lots of roofs torn off & trees down. Electric poles & stop lights & etc. As for as I know only one death here. A roof caved in on a woman. A lot of homes in our neighborhood have damaged roofs, pool cages & carports torn off. Ours are fine. We have a metal roof & those do so much better in a hurricane we are told. Thank ya'll so much for the prayers & good thoughts. I do believe they helped. We are so thankful. So many in mobil homes lost their homes. We saw so many of them in the roads.Blue tarps on roofs are a common site here now. Just wanted to let ya'll know we're fine & grateful. Thanks again. |

Hi everyone, David got to our Fla Keys house 10/31 and found things a mess but all in one piece. All my plants are gone and the shed flooded and was moved off it's foundation, the lawn is covered with seaweed and there were a few minor roof leaks, but nothing like Mother-in-law had to deal with. My close friend Jan got badly damaged at both her homes in New Orleans and in Marathon FL. Key West flooded again Halloween. My prayers are with you all that suffered from the storms. Teri

Glad you are okay Beach. I was worried about you. I'm still here and I'm going to move in our new trailer this week sometimes. Still no internet yet. But it's all coming soon. I'm at the libruary right now so I can't stay long. Love all of you. Will get back as soon as I'm up and running. We found a used trailer that was like new. 16X80 3 bedrooms so I'll have a sewing room for myself. I have electric, water, sewerage and phone service. I bought a new washer and dryer and fridge but now I need a bed and other furniture so I'm off today to pick up some of those things. I can't wait to be back to normal. It's so beautiful out were we are moving. Lots of deer close to us and wildlife. And most of all quiet. Hugs to all of you. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Suzie, it's good to hear from you too. Sheesh, there are always a few of you girls going thru some sort of trauma.

Teri, so glad your damage wasn't any worse. We were in the Keys not long ago. Before Wilma. Just shopping & eating seafood. We were so lucky with Wilma. Some weren't & the area is a disaster area but they are cleaning up as fast as they can. I worked for 2 days getting palm fronds out to the curb & the neighbors bamboo.I hired a couple boys to help me with the rest. DH was working on the hurricane stuff for the county. Fema came around yesterday but we didn't need anything ourselves. Thanks everyone again how wonderful you all are for thinking of us, your prayers & being so kind. It will take me until Christmas to get this home organized I think. That's life.I'm grateful to have stuff to organize. I still feel so bad for Susie & all the ones that lost most everything. I'm so glad they are beginning to get their lives back to near normal now. Everyone take care. Beachgirl |

So glad you are All OK.. I did notice that after Fla. was ridiculed about taking so long to restore power, a lot more got restored the day after that.. Maybe not enough volunteers from other states had shown up to help before that.. I know that is what helps most of the time.. One elec. co. cannot usually get it done in a hurry.. Takes lots of outside help when millions are without power.. Again, I'm glad all of you are OK..Beach Girl, I was worried about you particularly.. Someone came here to visit and told the newspaper about terrible damage in Naples..I was scared for you, and prayed extra hard..
