With all the stuff that has been happening lately, I think we could all handle a little good news. The world is topsy turvy and there have been some terrible things happen to people.

I want everyone to post something good that happened to them recently. It could be that you lost five pounds or that you won the lottery. Any good news is welcome and we want to hear it!

I will go first.

My grandson started grade 8 this month. He usually has a terrible time in school but this year he has done just great! No problems with teachers or homework. We couldn't be more pleased and he is much more relaxed lately.

I got out of Burger King and am working in housekeeping in a hospital. So far, I am liking it. I have meant some nice people at this job, and some old friends that I worked with for 23 years. It has been great.

I was just finishing up my 20 blocks for the christmas swap, and as I pulled the last block out from under the presser foot, the bobbin thread came with it, and I had 2" left! How's that for good?

On a more serious note, my daughter (6th grade) just became a peer mediator at school. Plus she's in band, and she has excellent grades. I'm so proud of her!

My daughter won 1st runner up in a local pageant a couple weeks ago. Both of my kids made the "A" Honor Roll on their report cards. I am applying for a new job that's full-time (wish me luck). That's a ll the good news I have at the moment.

I have good news along the same lines as GreenDragonLady. I was using up a few partial bobbins and two of them ended right as I was finshing a row of stitching. My needle thread also broke during this project and it broke right as I was finishing too.
After 3 yrs. of living in this house and putting off decorating rooms for fear of it not looking good. I fought my fears and finally tackled my youngest daughters room. I painted the walls, made matching switchplate and outlet covers, finished up some curtains that I started for her long long ago, painted the furniture to match the walls and am now working on putting only the things she realy needs back in the room. She loves it!!! I am happy I could do this for her and now the other kids are saying "Do mine next!". It makes a mom feel good to know she CAN do things to make her kids happy!!!
Thanks Mary for posting this. I had been thinking nothing could go right lately but you made me think about what has gone right.

Great post Mary! I agree, it's been just plain depressing lately!

My grandson got his cast off his arm yesterday and he's so excited! I really enjoy seeing him all excited about being able to do something.

My daughter just started working for the same company I work for so we get to spend more time together too!

My friend who has a window treatment Business just invited me down to check out all her fabric scraps (including silks and satins, brocades, etc..) and take all I want.. Great for My Business womens group. We are having a fund raising bazaar in November.. We give scholarships to young women.. I will be able to make lots of small gift items that will look great..

My hubby got a new job, which is basically a promotion and a very nice raise. Even though it means a major move across country for us, it's a fresh start, which we need, so that is good. The company will pay for our move and my mom may be considered a dependent parent and her move may be paid for as well! They will send someone to pack us and move us. We have 90 days before hubby has to report to the new job and that 90 day count doesn't start until the formal offer has been made, so it looks like we might get through the holidays before we have to move. :bg:

Yes, thanks, Mary for posting this!

Thanks Mary - I needed this today to find something good to think about.
My hubby got a promotion a few weeks ago and he is so happy at work, it makes living with him much easier . I had applied for a supervisory job at work and just got told I don't have enough current experience which really got me down cause I have 5 years of it, though not in the hospital. So I went out this morning and bought myself a pair of cords, three long sleeved t-shirts and a blouse, came home and realized I have more fabric that matches perfectly with what I bought and so now have a pile to make for ME. And I have a perfectly adorable granddaughter that is a month old yesterday. My son, who moved 1/2 way across the country to be with the rest of the family just got a job as a kinesiologist, which is what his degree is in and he's happy, which makes me happy. AND my wonderful sister gave me her embroidery machine which I will start playing with as soon as it comes back from being cleaned. That's really exciting. And I'm getting my own sewing room as soon as the bag from he** moved out of our basement this next month. All in all I am truly blessed.

My great news is that my DH got his test back & he doesn't have Diabetes. He does have to be very careful with what he eats as his family has it & Father passed away from it. Doc said he could possibly delay it for 10 to 20 years. That big black cloud just fizzled away. We couldn't have been more thrilled if we'd have won the biggest lottery ever. :bg: :bg:

My back is feeling better...( I can move mostly  ) I managed to get my sewing room cleaned up, got my new machine up (it's heavy and takes up a LOT of space.I Had to buy an extra sewing table). Now I FEEL like sewing...in fact I did some tonight !!!
After a month of NOT being able to get a local phone call (just long distance, we could call out, but no one could call us, not even US on our cells) WE GOT THE PHONE LINES FIXED. (2 of the repairmen told us to get new phones...so we spent a lot of money for nothing...it was our LOCAL Sprint line) But the PHONE actually works now !!!

I just got 2 new pairs of shoes for court (jury duty) and they fit like gloves.
(www.zappos.com)(I've been a customer for about 3 yrs now and have NEVER been disapointed)
So today was a V E R Y good day !!! Yay ALL of us !!! :bg:

My grandaughter was feeding a chipmunk in the woods and was bitten and had to go thru a series of rabies shots - my good news is that she is just fine and I'm so glad her parents had the presence of mind to ask the doctor if there was any concern about a chipmunk having rabies.

My other good news is that my other daughter was offered her old job back as a dental hygenist with a huge raise. Her maternity leave was not over until end of October when the baby turns one but they needed her now. Her hubby is taking over the rest of her maternity leave. I'm glad he works for a company that encouraged him to do so. He's a great dad and is loving this full-time parent roll. I'm so happy that they are such loving parents.

We had a great night at the football game last night. Our high school team won their first game last night (86 to 45!) Big thing for us as we are a small school and play 6 man football.
My son is doing great in school so far this year. My husband drives a truck and the loads are starting to get better. (Big help with the price of fuel.) I almost have my first quilt that I've sold ready to go into a quilting frame (long as nothing else goes wrong lol).

I will finally be getting my new windows installed on Tues and the new siding is promised before the snow flies. :dave: These 2 things should lower my heating costs as gas prices keep going up!
I got a steal of a deal on a new Janome Quilters Companion sewing machine using store points that never seem to add up to anything. For an example and good laugh compare how many points needed for a pound of butter and the actual cost of butter. :re:
AND I have a very minimal to no headache today. The antibiotics for my sinus infection have finally kicked in after 3 days and I discovered I was having a prescription interaction making me feel like I was covered with creepy crawlies. :nervous: The creeping feeling stopped 8 hours after discontinuing the med and while I still have some skin left.
It is now sunny so will go out and do a few last gardening things.

About 6 weeks ago I walked into an auto parts store to get a part for my car that had broke down and ended up with a job offer that pays a $1 more an hour and is 50 miles closer to home than my last job. I also get to work with an awesome bunch of people.
Tonight I have the joy of having my 2 dear Grand daughters stay overnight. I am going back to the couch to snuggle with them now. :)

My son in law is going back to school to get his diploma. He could take the easy way out & get a GED but he decided to go back to night school & get an actual diploma. I am so prud of him & know that he will do it. When he is done he plans to go on to college & become an electrician. He has been out of high school for 7 yrs. & has a decent job. This is just something he decided he whats for himself & to make sure his 2 boys know that education is important to him.

This is a weekend that I am treating myself. Last night I went out to the live "Corner Gas" show that was featured in the casino's theatre...haven't laughed so much in quite a while. Then today 2 friends and I went on a quilting shop hop to the Montreal area. Visited one quilt shop that I had never been before and revisited some others. Best thing is.... I got to add more quilting fabric to my stash including some at $8.00 :Canada: a meter and some fat quarters for $2.00 :Canada: each. Up here that is a real bargain. :bg:

What a great thread you've started here Mary.

Good news: I got a teaching assignment at the Sorbonne. Means larger wages (even though I won't get paid until April!) and above all resuming the joy of teaching. I LOVE teaching. Researching is a lonely business... So this opportunity to interact with students is great news.

Other GREAT news: my little sister just graduated from Medical School (i.e. passed the exam to become an intern) and has chosen to come work in Paris. Meaning we won't miss each other all the time anymore. (Sis is 1 year younger and like a twin sister to me)

Tony and I celebrate 26 years of marriage today. The laugh is although I bought him a card from a supermarket in Royston and he bought me one from a newsagents in Cambridge - we got the same card. Are we a pair or what?
I bought him a sonic screwdriver ( a la Dr Who) as a pressie and mine is in a small flat box that I am not allowed to open yet....

My good news.... both kids made the scholar's bowl team. DD on the junior high team, and DS on the high school team.
I don't know where they get it. Not from mom or dad.
This is dd's 2nd year on scholar's bowl. :bluesmile This is the 1st year DS decided to test for it. He also got 2 second place trophies in a karate competition recently, so I think his confidence is up.
DD has always been involved in different activities at school, but my son has never been interested and doesn't socialize much. It's nice to see him more involved now.

Bama, that is wonderful your son is joining in more now. I wish my grandson would. As soon as school is out, he is a loner. He was more sociable last year.

Mary,
Our son has always been a loner too.
He started taking karate nearly a year ago and LOVES it. It's helped him so much. He's more confident, he has several new friends, and I've never seen him more excited about something.
He had a counselor once that said that martial arts is good for kids like him. It teaches them discipline, respect, and self control. I've never seen him having his tics (TS) when he's doing karate.
He tested for a new belt last night and skipped a level. He's still smiling. He has about 3 more tests now before he tests for black belt.
He keeps trying to get me to start taking karate with him. :dave: He's always trying to teach me self defense. ("Okay mom, what would you do if somebody tried to grab your purse..." etc....") He also reminds me how many people are taking that even older than I am. :nervous: His Sensei is in his 60's.
It's just too expensive for both of us to take. Good excuse, huh?

My good news is that I have a healthy 2 week old grandson. His mom had a two year fight with ovarian cancer and was told she would never have a baby. (she is only 19!). Her exam five months into the pregnancy showed complete remission. God works miracles

Bren, I love the way you called your oldest step daughter a bonus daughter! I have three step children which are my kids even though they are only by marriage. I love them dearly.

My good news for this week is that my tenant who has made our lives a nightmare is out on MONDAY! And then after we clean up the mess, I get my sewing room! DH has been a wonderful man and took me shopping on Thurs to get a cutting table and another table for my serger, his suggestion to go shopping! He's got great ideas for shelving for me and will lengthen the cutting table legs. I think he's excited to get his computer room back.

My 7yr old son made the A honor roll and received an award for perfect attendance. Perfect attendance is a miracle for this boy because he has asthma and normally misses at least a few days per quarter because of it.
Also he has been selected to be tested for the gifted and talented program at his school. I am so proud of my little guy!!! Sometimes I have a hard time believing this is my little 4 lb. preemie.

I have plenty but to start with: As of Nov. 4th i have been a non-smoker for 4 months. Not bad for a two pack a day, forty years plus of smoking HUH? i feel great and have been sewing like crazy. Oh, best of all my son said Dad if you can quit after all thsoes year I can, he had been smoke free for three months!

I also started back to church with a new and improved attitude.

Peace to all and much happiness to you!

gawd...I've been so overwhelmed lately and was just certain I had nothing to celebrate but I guess I do.

My son had a routine physical and we got the lab results back yesterday. Apparently, he has triglycerides of 199...which may be expected for someone who's over 40, obese, heavy smoker with a heavy fat diet...but my son is only 18, fit (not fat and we thought, very healthy) and since I am a vegetarian health-freak (practically vegan) and do 99% of all the cooking, his fat intake is a very low! Obviously, my son has some kind of genetic condition. I can only imagine how high the triglycerides would be if he ate a "normal" diet. I guess I can be grateful we found out about it now rather than after his having a heart attack or stroke at 22. I mean, as a mother, you'd just never expect a heart attack in an apparently healthy hgt/wgt proportionate young man.

My good news is that after 8 weeks of liguidating another JoAnn's it is done! I did no harm to the liquidator, who thought he was the gift to retail. In the past 2 days I have put in almost 30 hours straight just so I could say I was done. Now I can go back to being a part time person with no duties except to be nice to my fellow co workers, do my job for the day, and help the customers out in the brand new superstore.

Nice, Summers. Good timing that I finally found this thread! My good news: I think I am on an upswing after a slump. It was a long slump, and so far, about 8 good days and counting. But I'll keep taking them as they come! Today, my husband, daughter and I went out on a nature walk w/ friends in this beautiful weather we've been having in November! This evening we went out ice skating with them and met others for dessert, celebrating my husband's birthday (just a little belated for this Halloween man). Not sure what we'll do tomorrow. I'm going to go to bed and rest well. ' Night, all.

Good to get a heads up on that Kathleen - hope they can find a way to reduce your sons triglycerides and what a good job you have kept him so healthy!
My daughter (aged 18) came home from Uni for a visit this weekend. She is having a fab time, making good friends and finding the work interesting and easy (she is reading Psychology). I met her off the train and had one of those "good lord, my daughter is a Grown Woman" moments that come over you every now and then. And what a great woman she is!

Wow Mary,
What a great thread. I love to hear the good news

They removed a mass from a girly part of my body this week and it wasn't cancerous (I love telling the doctors "I told you so!")

Gas is down to $2.25 per gallon, which is almost $1 less than I paid just five weeks ago.

I finally got all 20 of my resources, a thesis statement and an outline written for my first exegetical theology research paper! It's due in 8 days---Yikes!

There are only four weeks left in this school semester and one of them is a holiday!!!!

The Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs last night, even though San Antonio has two old Mavericks players on its team who are both mad about being traded!

My lovely adolescent daughter just came and gave me a hug and a kiss on the top of the head (she thinks I'm still sitting at this computer working on that paper!)

YOUTH SOCCER SEASON IS OVER IN CARROLLTON TEXAS! I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO A SOCCER GAME NEXT SATURDAY!

I could go on, but that's enough hand-clapping for now....

Hoorah!! I have a new sewing room!!! Its still slightly unorganized, but I think by Monday evening I'll be able to sit down and sew something again. DH is going to change some lighting for me, and he already raised the cutting table/desk we bought and scolded me for attempting to cut a piece of wood with his mitre saw, but then he cut the piece I needed ( :nah: ). The best thing is I have gone through EVERYTHING, cleaned out all the little bits of stuff that I really needed to do, reorganized it all, and I am tickled pink! I even got the three rooms painted downstairs (we took out a suite that was on the entry level of the house, that's why I have the room). Now, all that's left is to repair an area where we took out a wall, and repaint that, plus repaint the bathroom. My list of projects to do has grown a foot since cleaning it all out, can't wait to get started!!

More good news for me.

I finally got all my rubber stamps and ink pads organized and labeled. This was quite a job because I had them in three different areas of the house and in an odd assortment of boxes and cases. Now they are all in the same kind of container and they are stackable.

My hubby finally put up a gate in the kitchen doorway so I can shut my bed/couch/floorwetting dog in there.

I managed to take up the extra inches in my daughters choir gown without cutting the excess fabric off. This was quite a chore and I am very happy with the results.

Well I think that is all my good news for now.

How do you know when it's time to clean the sewing room? When you lose two pattern pieces and you're ready to cut them out!! I lost a sleeve and pocket for a robe I was cutting out. I had just had them and then they were gone somewhere in the mess. So after a couple of hours I have sorted through the different piles of material and sorted them into some kind of different containers. Also found four UFO's and some things I need to send to my DIL. So not a waste of time but something I hadn't intended to do today. And yes I found the missing pieces! Also uncovered some much needed shelves and floor!

I'm cleaning out some drawers in my sewing room today. Have a waste baskets of " what did I saw this for ". At least getting my stuff to run from Wilma made me see that a lot of things I no longer need to keep. Sure isn't what I planned to do today but since I'm so tired from getting the house back in order it's not a heavy job. It's something that was so easy to put off since it didn't show.

Connection, there ?? of course, I had to be healthy to spend time around him... But really, they have been working for me.. I have been relatively healthy from flus, and colds since then..

I just found out that our youngest daughter and her son are hoping (fingers, toes crossed) that they can arrange to come out for Christmas. That would mean that all 5 kids, 3 grandkids and DH's parents would all be together for Christmas for the first time in 8 or 9 years!!! I'm just praying it will happen. We haven't seen her for THREE years! Since my in-laws are getting up there, this could be the last Christmas we can all be together. We're already talking about having a family portrait done. I have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure, she's trying to get her stepdad and mom to loan her the money until next year. I've already talked to DH about helping her out cash wise and I know his parents will throw something in as well. I can't wait!!!

Nope, I have never had a flu shot. I am very rarely sick. Maybe this should have been the year to begin.

We got report cards last week. DS (ADD no meds) Senior in high school got a B in Government & A's in English, Video production, Web design, AP(college level) Calculas (SP?), & woodshop. DD freshman all honors classes got a B in Algebra & Geography & A's in Biology, English,French & Art.
DS also had perfect attendance & Dd only missed 1/2 day. All homework assignments were done & turned in on time.
I am so proud of them both. They both have some learning problems & have worked hard to get to this point.
On another note at their school they do something called senior spotlight. It is & 1/2 show ran on a local cable channel. 4 seniors get interviewed each week. Last week one of the questions was who is your favorite High school teacher? I asked my kids for their favorite all time teacher. DD answered so quick MOM! I was so happy she thought of me. I hadn't. My others could name least favorites but had a hard time picking 1 favorite.
These 2 have given me quite a few warm fuzzies lately. I hope it lasts!

Bren --
Yeah, she is quite pleased -- although she expected to pass.
I asked her if I should call her "Esquire" now.
This was her email reply:

"No not really because passing the exam does not equal admission to practice law. First the committee has to find that I have the requisite fitness of character to practice law, i.e., they have to make sure I have no soul."

She will make a great lawyer, I'm sure.

My good news is last night I went roller skating with my 6yr old GD 2 yr old GD and my 2 DD's. I skated and didn't fall once. I was proud, been a couple of years since I have tried skating. It was a function for 6 yr old GD school, and I had lots of fun. I noticed I see things differently now then when I was the parent.

Mamadaus, great news, where did you buy it from?

IT SNOWED HERE !!!!!!!!!!! That's really great news for me!! My best friend was almost shot by her co-workers for getting so excited about it snowing. She said that she thought she was going to have to call me for re-enforcements!!!!!! When we worked together one of use would run up to the other and yell " IT"S SNOWING!!!!!!"

Good News IS................................ I'm Back and this time for good!!!!!!!!

We are finally settled. It's kind of primative, no porch just steps, just a few towels and pots, all the things I saved are in storage and we haven't had time to retrieve them as of yet. But tomorrow is another day. I have my own bed which tickles me to no end that blow up thing has me with a crick in my neck and back. Then the twin bed that replaced the blow up one was not too much better but I have a king size bed, and as Goldie Locks said, "it's is just right".

I do have some bad news!!!!!!! I gained 10 pounds!!!!!! of the 52 I lost so it's back to Weight Watchers for me again. DGDs #'s 2 and 3 are visiting this weekend and DGS's both of them are coming on Monday. All my DS's and their families are coming Thursday for Thanksgiving and I'm cooking Yeahhhhhh.

It feels so wonderful to be back AT HOME!!!!! Love to all of you. Hugs Susie
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

NO BREN!!!!!!!!!! NO WEIGHT WATCHERS THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!! ROFL If I have to cook all the good food this week for Thanksgiving I'm going to eat, and eat and eat then I can join WW's next week. LOL

Dorothy, I was worried about not being home for the holidays and all the Grands are asking me is "MawMaw are you going to have your Christmas party this year?" Awe, they love me, the little darlings. LOL The next question was am I getting a pool out here. I told them when PawPaw builds the pond they can use that until I get enough money to build a built in pool this time. I didn't have the heart to tell them about the snakes around here.

Naomi, You are so sweet. Did you really miss me that much? I was having withdrawles and they were almost as bad as the menopause symthoms I had when I was going through that mess.

Good to be back with you gals You are all the bestest!!!!!! Hugs Susie

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies, I truly am touched by all the kindness everyone has expressed to me during this awful time in my life but as you can see it made me tuffer and meaner so I know I'm okay. I don't think I'm going to kill myself this year doing a lot of sewing for gifts. I think I'm just going to do what I can a little of this and that and then if I feel like it I can do more if I feel like. It's too hard and stressful to start this late sewing for Christmas with all I have to do around here. I have to go to Chalmette Tuesday and sign papers to release them to tear down my house and my Mother's house and I'm not really up for that one. I guess it's going to be a shock to see it all leveled when they do it but I think it's best I'm not there while their doing it.

We had a lovely dinner Thursday, my Brother joined us with his Mother In Law and one of his sons and all my kids except for my youngest son came, he was working but the girlfriend came with the baby and his older son was here all week with us so we had a nice time.

Dinner was as follows:

Turkey
Dressing
Chicken and Dumplings
gravy
macaroni and cheese
corn
peas
brocolli and cheese
rolls
cheese cake cupcakes
banana pudding
MIssissippi Mud Pie
GUMBO
Rice
10 more pounds I added to my body!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after all that!!!!
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Susie --
It's just nice to see you in your own home again.
Good for you -- don't give yourself a deadline sewing. Use sewing to reduce stress not add to it. Sew what you want, when you want, for whom you want so it is enjoyable not a chore.

Susie, Yep, it's good to hear you on SWN again. I agree with Dorothy. You've had enough stress so take it easy and sew for enjoyment!!! Now I do disagree with something you said...this experience definitely made you tuffer but I don't believe it made you meaner!!!! :bg:

Nice to see you around.

Judee, After a week with the grandkids just ask them about if I'm mean or not. They almost drove me crazy!!!!!!! The fighting. I have one granddaughter who is jealous of everyone and she sets the others up and then sits back and watches them get in trouble well Paw Paw caught her doing this and she got hurt (slammed finger in the door) she was trying to get my grandson in trouble and it backfired on her. I'm not up to all the fighting. It's so quiet here now. :bg:
