Hi
I purchased a sewing machine 4 months ago and have been teaching
myself (with a little help from some books) to sew. I have always wanted
to learn to sew so I am really having fun. I recently signed up for some
Basic sewing classes, so I am looking forward to them.
I have been reading your forums for a couple of days and find them very
helpful, everyone sounds nice. Im sure I will have many questions in the future.

Hi Becky! Welcome
I am new here too and these great ladies helped me out of a horrible spot that was so simple I can't believe I was stuck like I was.
Good luck with your classes and new machine.
You will get help here I am sure!

Welcome!! Good luck with learning to sew! I find it fun and I love to hear people's remarks when they see something that I have made and realise that I made it and didn't buy it. If you have any questions, be sure to ask, I am sure someone here will be able to help you out.

Becky , Welcome, you will love this site.. I don't know if you were pointed here or stumbled on it, but sometimes people get on the discussion boards and do not know what a diverse site this is.. So, if you haven't discovered the home page, be sure to check it out..You can stay here for days before you read everything.. Lots of lessons here also.. Sewing lessons have from beginner on... Julie has great lessons there.. The skirt was great to let a beginner learn on.. I have recommended it several times with great success. (the persons told me, later) There are lots of quilting lessons also.. A long list of craft and bazaar items to sew (suitable for gifts)... Like I said you can spend days here and its always great reading and talking with all the new friends you will find here. :bg: :coffee2:

Welcome! And don't ever feel bad about being a beginner, heck, we all were at one time and there's always new things to learn and people to share with here. My MIL and sister totally understand my love of sewing, my DH - rolls his eyes, (much like I do when he starts talking engines!)

Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement. I am so
looking forward to my first class this week. I am expecting my
first grandchild (a girl) later this year and am hoping to be able
to make her a baby blanket and maybe some bibs.
Laura...I know what you mean about so many things to spend money
on...there are lots of things you need to get started. I try and
watch for the coupons for fabric and the expensive items, that
always helps. I am going to start working on that baby blanket
this week, so I may be posting some questions for you all!

Hi Becky *~*
Welcome to the SWN forums! Like you, I am also teaching myself how to sew. You will find a lot of great topics and how-to's here. Everyone on this site is very friendly and willing to help out with questions and problems, and are very encouraging and supportive. I haven't been here very long myself, but I love seeing what people are making and how they do it.

Congrats on the new grandchild!!! My first GC arrived last December, and I am in love with our little guy! You will find that, in time, she will be your inspiration to learn new things--and every trip to the fabric store will have you looking at kids fabrics! Yep, guilty as charged! LOL I have more kiddie flannel than I know what to do with right now, but winter's coming and I want my little guy to have some nice cuddly blankets to snuggle up in at playtime and bedtime. I"m also going to try to make him some new sleepers for his b-day and Christmas. I'll be looking forward to seeing any pics you take of your creations--Good Luck!
