Yes I have done this and stop sticking your tongue out at me lol...The first one I did for practice was a coloring page of a simple angel, cut out my fabric then ironed my bias tape to get use to the angles and such. |

I have made two stained glass quilts - both sunflower designs. I really enjoy making them and they look like stained glass from a distance. I took one class at our local quilt/fabric store. I tried to insert a picture of it her but it didn't work. Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

I have done only one, though I hope to do more in the future. I took a class and just chose this pattern at my local shop. http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/7818/angel7iw.th.jpg (http://img396.imageshack.us/my.php?image=angel7iw.jpg) |

Hi Mary, I also did a stained glass angel very much like the one above, but not with bias tape. The pattern is transferred to fusible interfacing and onto black cotton. The non-black areas of the pattern are cut out, leaving you with a black mesh (think "hair net" sort of thing). The colored pieces of the angel are ironed on to the back of the mesh after the paper is removed. The top is then top-stitched by hand or machine around all the edges to secure. If you are interested in this technique, I will post the name of the instructor and her book. I'll post a picture too, if I can figure out how. Made one and have two more cut out for Christmas gifts! The technique would work with any stained glass pattern. |

The brand was Three Swan Studios and the pattern is "New Dawn". I think their patterns are really beautiful. http://www.quiltsource.ca/qshtml/3swan/3swanmenu.html And yes, I did it with fusible bias tape. |

There, I upload the picture from my computer, and then copy the second line (thumbnail for forums) and paste it into my post. |

Stained Glass Applique - The Simple Fused Way by Brenda Brayfield and Lise Merchant is the name of the book that uses the no bias technique. Since this is the way I learned to do stained glass applique and have never used the bias method, I really can't promise that this is easier. Perhaps you can try a small article in each method...and recommend the better one to us! Happy Experimenting. P.S. Brenda Brayfield is a Canadian! |

You should be able to adapt any stained glass pattern to do with fusible bias tape but you will have to sit and figure out which pieces goes on first, second, etc and which ones go under another. Most all sewing machines that can do a zig-zag will accomodate a double needle. The needle shaft is single and fits into your machine the same as a single needle. You just have to make sure there is room for both needles to go thru your needle plate. Size .04mm is the correct size for bias tape. Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

Ok another question for my knowledgeable friends. Is this fusible bias tape the stuff that gums up your needle?
