Hi, I am going to sew up a bunting. The thickest of the fleece looks to thick to sew on zipper. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks Valerie |

When I've used fleece to make a bunting bag I've used the heavier zipper that is used on outdoor clothing, with plastic teeth. I haven't had any problem with sewing them in even if I've lined the fleece with flannel. Are you using a heavy enough zipper?

Did you think about maybe doing a zig-zag on your layers of fleece to squash them together before applying the zipper. I think I would likely fuse a strip of interfacing on the edges before I zig-zaged to make sure it didn't stretch. |

Some times when I sew fleece to a zipper I do it from the wrong side with just one layer, (like sewing in an invisible zipper) so it them folds back away from the zipper without a placket, this makes your zipper totally visible to the world but if you are using a heavy fleece and a plastic zipper it can work. http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jeanettedionne/album?.dir=/d145 Jeanette

I've done it that way too. It is an exposed zipper but with no extra stitching lines. I like it better. Very cute jacket and pants Jeanette.

Hi, thanks for the info. I don't understand how you can sew it single fabric when you have to sew fabrics together below the zipper. Also if it was jacket & you had the zipper from the top to the bottom, won't it look funny seeing the raw edge. thanks Valerie |

I did that technique on both the cord and fleece jacket. If the bunting is sewn together below the zipper, what I would do is put the zipper in first before sewing the lower portion of the seam, leaving about an inch or so of the zipper unattached, then once the zipper is in, stitch the seam together as close to the end of the zipper as you can. The the zipper "disappears" beneath the seam and the end of the zipper is free beneath the fabric. Jeanette
