I made placemats and napkins (sets of 6 each) for my friends for Christmas last year. The neighbors also got a chocolate cake. My questions is this: Would it be tacky to do the placemats and napkins again? I have made a couple of lap quilts for two older ladies and I made aprons for a few of the other women on my list. I am behind on my Christmas gifts this year as I have been having alot of problems with the heart. I think placemats and nakins because they are easy and quick to make. What do you think? Thanks! |

Okay I think placemats and napkins are fine. Do they out of holiday material or if that is what you did last year do them to match the dining area. I am always excited by someone making me something, and I do not care if it was the same thing as last year. I would do what you can do, table runners are a nice gift to.

If you have the same fabric how about a bread basket or coffee pot/tea cosy to match. Or if not enough fabric , use as a trim on an item that would match.

If you did your placemats and napkins in Christmas fabric, what about doing them in a summer fabric, or a fall fabric? It's always nice to have different sets for different occasions.

I agree with 2 of the ideas here. You could make some nice table runners to accent the placements and napkins you made before. You can mix and match the fabric to give the table a unique and festive look. I make single layer table runners for us and my daughter for each holiday and season. I use 2 different fabrics, one is larger than the other, and lay them out with the smaller one on top. This makes the larger one look like it's framing the smaller one. I got this idea from an old ladies magazine that a friend of mine gave me 6 months ago. It also saves time and frustration because you don't have to worry about putting in the batting or filler and turning it inside out, etc, etc. Not one of my better abilities. I also will add a touch of color and decor by using a contrasting thread color and one of the decorative stitches on my machine to make the hems! I love doing it that way! I made 4th of July runners like that the some patriotic Scooby Doo on blue gingham with flags as the smaller one, framed by a dark blue fabric with fireworks on it-they looked great on our coffee table!
