This year i would like to sew my 2 1/2 and my 1 1/2 year old sons a holloween costume i wanted them to be a duo Batman and Robin. Does anyone have suggestions? I though of just buying sweats to match the colors then add the emblems. But i'm not so sure how to make the cape for Batman or the overall for Robin.

Liz I made my grandson a cape a few years ago. I drew a paper pattern and tested it against him for length, then bought fabric & lining, cut it out sewing it together. Used ties to tie around his neck by making a casing and using buttonholes near the front. You could velcro it shut too if you make the neck area to accomodate. My grandson still pulls his cape out at times when he wants to play superhero. I made the outside and the lining different colors so he can reverse the cape if he wants. The pattern I made was very simple, rounded for neck, flared out at the bottom and slightly rounded at the bottom. It took me a couple of tries but once done I was happy with it. Hope that helps some. No ideas for Robin though.

I'm assuming you are using the red and green robin costume?? What about a felt or fleece vest that snaps up on one side with points down to the crotch area so it looks like a jumpsuit? You could use a t-shirt pattern to get the basic shape with no sleeves, sew up the shoulders and one side, then snap or velcro the other side, does that make sense?

I made a felt robin costume a couple of years ago, we used red felt for the tunic and a green sweatsuit underneath, add a yellow felt belt with a wide brown or black felt buckle. I made the mask out of black lining interfaced heavily and satin stitched around the outside and eyeholes. I found an old pix of the robin "R" and made it out of felt and glued that on, I cut a small cape and tacked it to the shoulders of his felt suit. Batman (the next year) was a dark grey sweatsuit with the batman decal in felt again glued on and a cape. I made a mask with the pointy ears out of thick pant fabric (the reason I keep all these leftovers) and it just covered his nose, looked pretty good at the time! Jeanette

I have scanned the front of a pattern from my stash for you. I think it would help but I do not know how to get the image to you. I am having difficulty posting images to this forum. I know it will help, since it is a circa 1978 Simplicity pattern of Batman, Robin and Superman......pretty straightfoward I think you could probably use a few other patterns in your stash to pull this one off.... let me know how to get the image you...
