Tony found this website htp://en.wikipedia.org that is quite fun - it is a constantly update encyclopaedia - but we put our birthdays in to see what momentous events happened inthe world onthe ay we were born.
I deiscovered that on this day in 1783 England offiacially ceased hositilites with the UNited States
The uss Nautilus ( a nuclear vessel) clocked it's 60 000 nautical mile - thus reaching the record set by the fictional Nautilus in Jules Vernes classic novel - and I share a birthday with Erasmus, Dietrich Bonnhoeffer, Dan Quayle and Alice Cooper! Lets her it for me and the philosphers! Yay!

Who was born when you were - what shaped history on your birthday?

Some historical events on my birthday...

1760 - George III becomes King of Great Britain
1917 - The Bolshevik Revolution Commences
1861 - The Toronto Stock Exchange was created.

Share a birthday with...
Pablo Picasso - must be why I like art...althought not his kind :bluewink:
Minnie Pearl - none of her humour rubbed off on me
Helen Reddy - can't sing a note...dogs howl when they hear me sing.
...and a heck of a lot of other people who may be famous but I haven't any idea who they are!

And in 1999 Payne Stewart died on my birthday.

Well lets see...I was born on Dec 8th. My parents (4th) anniversary was the 9th. I was brought up Catholic, Dec 8th is a Holy Day of Obligation. ( I always had to go to church on my birthday..for those who don't know and may care, it's the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, 1854)
Dec 7th was the attack on Pearl Harbor...so on Dec 8th war was declared.
1941 was the first time Nazi's used gas on their victims.
John Lennon was murdered outside his apt building.

Mary Queen of Scots was born.
Jim Morrison of the Doors.
Sammy Davis Jr.
Flip Wilson
Teri Hatcher
Lee J Cobb
Sinead O'Connor
Eli Whitney (of cotton gin fame)

Well lets see...I can't act, sing or dance...I'm not royal. I'm not African American, Japanese or Jewish...I guess Eli Whitney is the best of the lot. I LOVE cotton fabric and I wear it EVERY DAY ! ( I wasn't always so happy having to go to church on my birthday.... :nervous: )

And a big happy birthday to My Girl Friday!

The people that share my birthday I've never heard of, except the Alberta premier Ralph Klein (woohoo). It's All Saints Day or the Day of the Dead - oh yuck

Okay now I know my date of birth isn't a good day  I knew the Kansas City Sky Walks collapsed on my birthday. But now I see all the things I'd forgotten like TWA Paris bound flight that exploded, the Tsunami, all within my life. Then there is the past history of horrible battles of war, the entire Russian family of Nicolas II killed! I think I need to change my birthday! :whacky: But I a couple of original funny people shared the day with me, like Phyllis Diller & Art Linkletter! Then there is David Hasselhoff of Bay Watch fame :nah:

There are so many events and birthdays but I figured everyone was just listing a few of them. I was reading through trying to figure out what to list and came across this and I found it rather funny so I had to list it.

1984 - United States President Ronald Reagan, during a voice check for a radio broadcast remarks "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes".

As for birthdays

1944 - Ian McDiarmid, Scottish actor
1950 - Steve Wozniak, American computer pioneer
1953 - Hulk Hogan, American professional wrestler

those are the only ones I really 'know'.

I think it is really interesting to read about things that occured on the day of a persons birth or other people that we share it with.

My daughter started Kindergarten and met a little girl that was born on the same day as her, in the same hospital just a few hours prior to her birth. I will never forget my daughter coming home telling me this information then asking if I had any photos of the other babies in the nursery.
I told her that there was only 1 baby that I was interested in and all of my photos are of her....She then asked if I remembers a little brown baby next to her in the nursery...once again there was only 1 baby on my mind.
Now my daugher is in 6th grade and her and the other little girl are best buddies! Who would have ever thought that would occur?? :bluewink:

My husband was nearly 50 and had lived all over the world when we moved back to the area he was born in and he met a guy born the same day, same year, same hospital. They, too, became very good friends.
His mom didn't remember the other baby either.
