I have just gotten back into knitting and have found a pattern that I like on Crystal Palace Yarns (www.straw.com) for a cardigan sweater. Merino Frappe Cloud Cardigan.
It calls for one stitch that I think I understand how to do it , but wanted to make sure. The row in question (row 2) says to k1 (edge stitch), p1, k1b = insert thru the center of stitch below the next stitch "k" it and slip off the needle. The odd rows (1,3,5,7,9,etc) are always "k" stitches from beginning to end on the needle.

My question is this, when I come thru the center of the stitch below do I still come up into the stitch on the needle and slip both off to together? If not, does it just drop and become a open space in the design? Does someone know of a website that shows stiches?
Thanks for your help!!

From looking at the picture of the cardigan, I would not put the needle thru the upper stitch. I would just drop it. If you are not for sure, you can do a swatch and try it both ways to see what the designs look like. Let us know which way you end up doing it.

I typed knitting instructions into the google search and came up with a bunch. You might check that out and see if they have what you need. I am a novice knitter and go there all the time to see if I can find instruction.
Good luck

I don't know what the stitch you are doing is called, but I usually go here
about knitting (http://knitting.about.com/library/blstitches.htm) for help. I will have to go and check out the pattern you are doing too. My knitting is now mostly scarves and toques (stocking caps). Though I am doing more childrens sweaters. I get too bored with knitting, it takes so long. By the time I get a piece done I'm so tired of looking at it I never wear it!

Looks like a fishermans rib type thing, Sewhappie. If that is the case you knit the stich below and drop the one above thus making the stich extra big. It takes a long time to make something in this but looks cool.

gives step by step piccies on it.

It seems to be the same stitch - hope this helps.
