I would like to get some feedback on what you all think would be the best beginners quilting books for someone like me who hasn't been sewing all of her life, but is quite interested in learning about quilting. I already have two books, one which was given to me. I was given "The Singer Quilters Bible", which is wonderful with all of its big color pictures. I have purchased "Quilting for Dummies", and I'm not all that crazy with the writers directions and opinions.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance! :bluewink:

I don't have any titles for you, but I got a couple off of Ebay pretty cheap and they are in great condition. I'm at work and don't remember what the names were LOL. Just go to Ebay and in the search thing put in quilts leave it at all cagagories and search it'll bring up all kinds of stuff, then go down to the books subheading and check out the non-fiction ones. The prices I paid for mine, I figured if I didn't like them I could give them to someone else or donate to a library. I've gotten a lot of information that helped me out of magazines.

I think looking at the Eleanor Burns quilting books & choose one you'd like to make. She has very simple easy directions. Fons & porter has the book Quilters Complete Guide that is good. The library has a lot of books on quilting so you might check some out & then decide ones you'd like to buy & keep on hand.

Carol Doak's "Your First Quilting Book (or it Should be)" is a good one. It's hard to say what my favorite is because I have over 100 of them. I'm addicted to books! (and fabric, and thread, and embroidery designs, and.....)

The first quilting book I bought was the Singer's Quilter's Bible. That one has just about everything that a beginner needs to learn about quilting. My next favourite one is "All About Quilting from A to Z" from Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, Quiltmaker Magazine and C&T Publishing. I got it just after it first came out and it was a bit expensive but I had a coupon and got it for 30% off. It is more like a reference book for when you are past the beginner stage and want to know much more about quilting - tips, tricks to cut and sew half square triangles, machine quilting, etc. And of course I frequently buy monthly quilting magazines too.

I have one, a beginner book by Alex Anderson. Simple lap quilts. Here is a link to Amazon for the book.

I appreciate the suggestions and the feedback you've all given. I have seen the Carol Doak book both online and in the stores, as well as Alex Anderson's book online too. I'll take a look at them soon. I wish going to the library was an option-I live in Erie County here in NY state and they are closing many of our local neighborhood libraries due to major financial budget cuts. The one in our village was a casuality of this.

Many thanks to all of you that responded!
