for dog diapers. I am just now wrapping up the diapers on the human babies and now my 14 yr old dog baby has started wetting the bed/couch/floor whenever he sleeps. I cannot kennel him and my kitchen has double wide doorways so I cannot find affordable gates to keep him on the tile floor. So now I think "Why not make him some diapers?" I have been looking on the net but all I could find were places that sold the diapers not the patterns to make them. If anyone has suggestions for how to make them or knows of a pattern that I can buy I would love to hear from you. Thanks! Gina

I'm on a dog forum, and this sort of thing has come up before. Members there use baby diapers, with a hole cut out for the tail. Or Depends (adult diapers) for bigger dogs. Or if its not much pee, buy the doggie undies for dogs in heat, and then use women's pantie liners in them. Hope that helps! Edited to add, some people say make sure you change the diapers as needed, because like babies, leaving a wet diaper on can cause problems! __________

Thanks LynnSew, I am really looking for a longterm, inexpensive, environmentally friendly fix for this problem. I used cloth diapers (that I made) on all my human babies and wish to do the same for my doggie baby. I am really hoping someone here knows of a pattern that I can buy. I am horrible about designing my own patterns. Gina

Well in case no-one finds a pattern............ I tried googling for you, doggy diaper one (http://www.doggiedee.com/doggie-diaper-products.htm) If you purchased one cover used for bitches in heat, or a bought diaper cover, you could make others from it, it needs to be somewhat waterproof fabric. Into that you insert the cotton cloth diaper that you would make. Or from another source: "My vet has an incontinent dog and uses little boy jockey shorts (putting the tail through the opening) and then putting a diaper or pad in the shorts. She uses straps designed to hold sheets in place under mattresses to keep up the shorts by fastening one end of the strap to the jockey shorts and the other to a harness that her dog wears in the front. For larger dogs, suspenders might work in place of the sheet straps, or perhaps you could make something using elastic. Another option is to try pants sold for bitches in heat; these are often sold in dog supply catalogs. I have heard that some doggie supply places now sell pants designed specifically for incontinent dogs." Also: "Dog incontinence medication Dan A. Our 13 year old dog recently became incontinent, which was very embarrassing for her. She could not control her bladder anymore. We asked the veterinarian for medication. Our dog was prescribed Phenylpropanolamine (commonly known as PPA), and it worked within 2 days. She is given half a tablet twice a day, and the problem has gone away. Slight appetite loss is a side effect, but ask your veterinarian if it could work for your dog. " Ask your vet if they know someone who uses doggy diapers, that you could contact and see if they would let you make a pattern. Thats all! Lynn. __________

Thanks Lynn, Google is a funny thing. Two people can google for the same thing and come up with totally different hits. I spent most of this morning looking before I came here to ask. I think I can figure out a pattern from the DoggieJ's site. Until then I really like the boys under shorts idea with the sheet holders. I was just trying to get a disposable diaper I had laying around to stay on him and he wasn't very happy about it. He walked around like he had to go #2 then it moved to where it wouldn't do any good. I am gonna see what I can scrape up around the house. The medication idea although a good one probably won't work since his incontinance is caused by a medication that he is on. Thanks for all your help. I love this site!!! No mater what you need someone here has an answer for you or will help you find the answer. Gina

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. You said you found a site where you can purchase doggie diapers....would it be possible for you to purchase one package of what they have, then take one apart to trace as a pattern for you to make more of them? It's just an idea, but it might work for you if you can't find an actual pattern for them. I hope you'll be able find something that will work for both of you.
