Hi,

(First-timer)

I have some towels that I would like to convert into hand towels and face washers. To do this, I thought I would sew a satin bias-binding around the outer edge of the towel and face washer to finish it off rather than a hem - I have a couple of questions though:

What if anything special should I do since I am sewing satin onto terry towelling - will this work OK?

And, how do I go around the corners without "bunching" ie how to I achieve a mitred corner?

If anyone knows of a site with step-by-step diagrams - much appreciated.

binding (http://craftandfabriclinks.com/TIPS/assemblebindqlt.html)

This is so easy to do once you've tried it. I haven't tried it on terry cloth but have done numerous baby quilts and it works great.

No problem, I'm just browsing around waiting for some work to come in. I did try doing a satin blanket binding on a very slippery knit fabric and I hated doing it, it took about 4 tries to get it and I still didn't like it. I'd be tempted to use a knit that looked like satin if there is such a thing, or else if I was using the packaged satin binding for a face towel, I'd sew the binding on the wrong side of the towel, still keeping the binding doubled, then fold that over to the good side and topstitch so you are actually getting a double thickness of satin, and it's 1/2 as wide. Does that make any sense???

Yes I understand what you mean - amazingly enough since I am NOT a sewer.

I'm not sure if I'm game to have a go - but we have a new bathroom, and we have bought new king sheet towels - but our older towels are still quite good condition & soft enough to use - also adding the binding gives a bit of a signature touch to the handtowel & face cloths, so I'm thinking about it.

It doesn't necessarily have to be satin either I suppose, but my Mum has satin trim on her towels and washers & it looks nice.

Welcome to the forum. I made several baby bibs out of terry with a satin binding. They turned out beautifully. Good luck!!
