I saw this beautiful asian inspired tunic when I was looking around in Lane Bryant one day. I want to make one like it, but I can't figure out what fabric to use. The shirt felt like the fabric itself was nice and thick when I felt it at the store. It also had a slight satin finish. Not too shiny, but slightly shiny. What kind of fabric should I use to recreate this shirt? -Danielle |

It sounds like one of the Asian print brocades that are so popular now. You can get them in silk, silk blends or polyester. Joanns usually have some of the polys for a good price. They are very easy to work with, comfortable to wear and easy to clean. And they are so pretty you can't really tell them from the much more expensive silks. Dorothy |

I think Dorothy L is right...you won't go wrong with the poly silks. There are some very beautiful ones and, as she said, easy to work with, easy to clean, comfortable to wear. It just feels so luxurious! MariLynntex

There colors on those and the designs are just wonderful! Hancocks has them and I'm sure that many stores do. They are hard to resist!

One thought, check to make sure that the thicker fabric will work for the pattern you are using. I stupidly found this gorgeous fabric and made it up in a shirt, and it was a bit too thick to quite work for the pattern, but I ended up using it as a light jacket to wear over t-shirts or sleevelss tops. That being said, I agree with the others they're easy to work with, and it went together really easily when I made my shirt. There's some great patterns out there now that would probably really compliment it. Ticia |
