A request from a friend who is making slippers. The pattern calls for one sheet of non-skid material for the soles. Apparently it is sold in 11x14(?) sheets. Has anyone seen this stuff? Where can we get it?

JoAnn fabrics carries a non skid rubber type for putting on the bottom of baby sleepers. Is this what you are looking for. I can find out the exact name tomorrow and the price per yard if you would like.

Hancocks sells it by the yard too. When I have needed it, I have just told them what I wanted and they were able to show me. It wasn't horribly expensive and unless you want a yard, there isn't a need to purchase all that much...depending on the size you need and the width of the material, you can probably cut the patterns so that the soles can be cut across the fabric either toe to toe or side by side.

We have a lot of slipper socks here in the UK - if you don't need it waterproof but just for trotting around the house you could go that option. Using the fabic as for the rest of the slipper you use that puffy fabric paint stuff and paint a close pattern of dots over the sole to make it non slip.

I bought some of the non skid stuff at Hancock's some time ago. It was on the wall with the notions and I think it was called Jiffy Grip--or something to that effect. |

all great leads, everyone. thanks! And yes summersechos, name and $/yd would be great. It's for my friend's home-ec student, who was motivated to try a project on his own. It would be great to get this new sewer started off on the right foot. gotta love the slipper pun!

In regards to the Jiffy Grip, I have often wondered about using that rubberized shelf liner stuff that kind of looks like jiffy grip. It's usually on a big roll, but I have seen it department stores as well, in small pkgs. but alot more money. |

The stuff I have purchased for this looks more like the commercial foot fabric. I has little round dots all over for traction. It is not terribly heavy and it is easy to hand.

I have done Magot's suggestion several times.. The Slipper sox gave me the idea.. And the Puffy paint does exactly the same thing and I already know how washable that is.. One thing to remember , if you have never used that before is , after you apply the paint and let it dry, you must heat it for it to puff.. Don't forget that step..

thanks all. I went to Jo's today and found it. They keep it hidden where you'd never find it! But I asked and the person I happened to approach knew what it was. It was $3.99/yd, and the "bolt" was 14 inches wide. They didn't have any pre-packaged, but it worked out more economically this way, b/c I could just ask for 18 inches ($2).

Wonder if this stuff is what I should use for the bottom of a chair cushion to make it stay in place without ties? Or does it need to be heavier? |

Now to be fair, I occasionally run into a gem at both Jo's that I have gone to. This one, while she knew the fabric and cut it for me, gave me flat eye contact, did not crack a smile, and just looked at me blankly when I tried to break the icey silence. Weird. They had a sign up about needing a new manager--Maybe she was just having a bad day Andrea

In reference to the post from : woodywoodpecker She said that : In regards to the Jiffy Grip, I have often wondered about using that rubberized shelf liner stuff that kind of looks like jiffy grip. It's usually on a big roll, but I have seen it department stores as well, in small pkgs. but alot more money. I have picked up this rubberized shelf-liner stuff for other purposes in a roll from my local dollar store. $1.00 beats the wal-mart price. I hadn't thought about using it for slippers though, I'll have to give it a try. |

Not only do they sell the non-skid for pjs' but they also sell a puffy type woven "look" grip that would probably be better on the chair. I've used it on some bar stools and they don't budge. It is a little puffier than shelf liner but it looks a lot like it and comes in an off-white color.
