Hi Everyone, I have a Viking #1 Plus that is about 10 years old. I have had it serviced regularly, up until a few days ago it was working fine. Now it sews 5 stitches stops for 20 seconds then sews 5 more stitches. The handwheel is very stiff also. Can anyone give a hint of whats going on with it, I really would like to know before I take it to my viking store. Or is it something I can fix, I hope , I hope. I don't trust the girl that works on them obviously. I hope someone on here can help. Thanks Karen |

There are a number of things that could give rise to the symptoms you describe. None of them good I'm afraid. If the number of stitches it takes are always the same it is very likely the main board. If the number varies it could be as simple as a dirty mainshaft position sensor. I am concerned that you said the machine is overly tight. This is probably due to needing cleaning and lubricating. This can cause damage to the transformer and it's circuit board. Get it into a dealer before more damage is done. If you don't feel comfortable with your dealer's repair person go to someone else. Just make sure they are a Viking dealer. The No. 1 is not a machine that just anyone can fix. I would suggest that if you do not feel comfortable with the repair person do not purchase another machine there. You should have a dealer that you can trust and count on when you need him/her. This is not to say that your repair woman is not good and honest but you need to find one that you feel comfortalbe with. You can purchase the best machine on the market but with todays machines if you don't have good dealer support you would have been better off with a lesser machine with good support. Have fun or don't do it, Tom
