I put together a top and it all fits well except for the under arms and sleves....there it is too tight. I have no room to let out the seams any. Would it work if i added an inch or so of extra fabric just there?

this a shirt for a business suit that i will wear to our upcoming show in New York or do i really need to start over and make a whole new shirt?

If you are always going to wear a jacket over the shirt I would think you could get by with adding some fabric to the side seems and underarms. If you plan on taking your jacket off, it might not look as nice as you want it to-sort of depends on the fabric you are using too. Would someone notice that you added fabric?

I hate it when I put all that work into something and something messes up. Hope you find a satisfying answer to your dilemma.

I added the piece under the arm and when i tried it on you could not see the added piece....the suit has a long duster to it and i was afraid that i would not want to keep the duster on all day...but as long as i dont raise my arms you wont be able to see the added piece.

thanks

A method that used to be common was to add a gusset under the arm. That is a diamond shaped insert to add comfort and ease to the garment. It can be part of the design and does not necessarily indicate that the garment was altered.
