Hi, I am new to sewing...I have only done my son's curtains which were already made...but instead of having it tabbed at the top I took it off and just hemmed it.
Ok now my question...I am making a hooded baby/toddler towel. I am binding it with quilt gingham binding. And since the binding was not long enough I am on my second package which I already knew would happen. I have put on the first one with ZERO problems which was a few days ago. Today, I was going to finish it. I have to overlap just about 1 inch. And when I start sewing backwards then forwards....it jams??? And the top stitch looks ok. Its getting jammed in the bobbin and its FRUSTRATING me so bad. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong since I had no problems before. The only thing I can think of is that its too thick...but when I sew past that 1 inch part...which I was able to after like 5 attempts...it still jammed.
Please someone help....I know its probably a quick fix for y'all...this project is not suppose to be this hard and take me this long! thanks!

hi there, have you re-threaded the top and re-threaded the bobbin, sometimes that fixes things. welcome by the way :bluesmile

are you getting a big rats nest of thread on the underside? Rethreading completely often helps as carmen said, as well when you start to sew hold both thread tails firmly behind and to the right of the needle, also check to make sure you don't have lint etc built up under your plate.
don't give up this happens to everyone.

It does happen to everybody at times. But we don't handle it with cool all the time! Some of us swear. Some of us sweat. Some of us yank and pull and accidentally rip. Some of us pull out the maual and go through all the check points again. Some of us waste our entire sewing time (it's limited you know!) on fixing the jam and never get through the task they set out to accomplish. This little teeny problem has happend to all of us. And most of us have done most of the above to deal with it. (Can you guess which one works the best?) Good luck, and hang in there!

Y'all made me feel a lot better. Yes sewing time is limited with a 20 month old that's for sure! I spent almost his whole nap time not accomplishing a darn thing! Frustrating...but glad to know that this does happen to the rest of the sewing world! Yes it is doing that big rat's NEST!
Bedtime for my son is almost here so I will try to work on it then.
Thank you ladies so much!

And I was holding both top and bottom strings...but maybe not firmly and not to the right I was holding it more to the back...so that probably will help just as well!

Try rethreading both top and bottom-make sure your bobbin is in and going the correct way. Also try changing needles and cleaning your machine. If it mostly rats up in the doubled up area, try sewing the rest of it and leaving that part for last-you could always do that small bit by hand if nothing else but sewing that end last might be easier than starting there-if I'm putting in a casing or a binding on something I don't usually start at a seam or where the fabric is thicker-start in the middle and work your way there.

Hope some of our ideas work for you!
