Just found this on the Husqvarna web site. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't begin to imagine wearing something like this! I think I'd hurt myself in it. Sewing Coat (http://www.sew.husqvarna.se/unitedkingdom/index_centrera.htm) Once you get to this link, click on 'sewing machines' (left top), click on 'platinum family' (left side), then on the right side is a little circle for 'downloads' with 'sewing coat'. That seems to be the only way to get to this coat pattern. So, what do you think of it?? Laura

Too funny- like a lab coat for sewing. I guess when you answer the door they'd know what your doing! I rather make a coat I could wear out of the house. |

I like the pin cushion on the sleeve. Ouch! You can see that coming. I have been caught outside playing with the dog or answering the door with a tape measure around my neck -- often. The neighbors laugh at my taste in jewelry. Dorothy |

When I am sewing and there is not a pin cushion near, I stick pins crosswise in my top or dress. I put pins on the right and needles on the left. I've gone several places dressed in costume as a "pin cushion". When I am sewing a lot, the visor of my car is usually decorated with pins and needles. I have some cool tools that pin or hang on my body, like pull out scissors...worried that when they retract, I'll die; and a thread cutter. I just can never remember to use them. I do have a home made "finger" pin cushion that I do wear sometimes and I've been known to wear the "old fashioned" wrist pin cushion with the plastic band around the wrist..can't find that one anymore (don't like the magnetic ones), so I don't wear it now. I almost always have a tape measure around my neck when I"m at the cutting board but now that most of my tapes are 119", when I step on them I nearly hang myself...I try to remember to use the shorter ones for that. (I guess you might think that when I'm sewing, I'm not very observant of my surroundings...and you'd be right). I can't imagine wearing the jacket for sewing. I guess it might make you look either crazy or very professional...I'm not sure which.....but then, when you think of my pins in my top, tape measure around my neck, scissors sticking out of my chest, pin cushion on my finger, I guess it is hard to imagine anything stranger looking..... pam

It wouldn't be practical for me...I'd be taking it off when one of those hot flashes hit then I'd still be hunting for my sewing notions.

I usually have a tape measure strung around my neck and my snips on a ribbon around my neck too. Try to remember to take them off when I pick up the baby.

Nope can't see it personally. I would have to have the air conditioning set on 55 to be able to wear that while sewing. They do come up with some wacky stuff. |

Thanks for the laughs ladies. I guess most of us who sew and/or quilt or both have our moments, hours, days, etc. of memory lapses when we go out of the house looking as though we really don't live an ordinary life, some of us probably more than others. I'm like you Pam, when I'm sewing, the rest of the world kinda disappears and I literally get wrapped up in fabrics and threads. I tend to have threads and fabric snips all over me which I deposit about the house as I go through. My DH says he can tell what whether I'm quilting or garment sewing by the color and types of thread and fabric bits stuck on and about me or scattered on throw rugs, floors, chairs, etc.. Patsy Patsy

They can't think anyone would really wear that! I do think an apron with pockets comes in handy when sewing.

If I were going to use an apron for sewing, I'd use a bib apron....as a matter of fact, that could be kind of cool.

Call me Crazy...but I have been considering making something very similar to this. Although I was thinking something more like a fishermans vest.

I've thought of making just a 3" strip w/pockets and place for snips, to go around my neck, but like Pam, I'm too afraid I'd fall on it or something, I definitely zone out when sewing, what a wonderful place to be! |

When I was at the needlecraft show in Ottawa, a Janome educator was putting on a trunk show of items embroidered on Janome machines. She showed a vest (just front panels) that she made and she wears when she is giving classes. It has pockets on both sides where she puts her sewing stuff. This site has a picture of two "sewing vests" that are something similar to her's http://www.kaplans.com/DottieSewingProjects.htm Hey Pam....here's a gardening apron that could possibly work for a sewing apron! http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/ef_gardeningapron.html TTFN from

I just keep having visions of someone in this, with their hair all Albert Einstein like, bifocals half way down their nose, with a maniacal look on their face.

Judy, I'd go for any one of the three of those before I would use a the coat. I think that is a little too warm and too bulky. I also can't imagine the look on a customer's face if they came to the door and said "Won't you come in, Sweetie" while wearing one of the coats. They'd probably expect to be used in an experiment. (Fortunately I don't often sew for the public anymore.) pam

Laura - sounds like a picture of me at work! My boss asked me if I could rig up a demo model of an artificial heart for her lesson next week - 2 squash bottles, some rubber bungs, acetate sheet for non return valves, a corkborer, a soldering iron, some glass tubing, food colouring and a rasp file later - Yay! the operation was a success - the patient died however and I was drenched. It's a webcam moment! love and kisses, Jan
