I have a 7 year old daughter that I am looking into putting in a regional pageant for Today's Girl. She is in need of a 'casual wear' outfit and I just got a really cute shirt pattern that I was thinking about using. here is the link
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4909.htm
The one I plan on using is the one that has the ruffles(shown in blue on the little girl)

Now, here is my question... should I mimic the ruffles on the ends of the sleeves as well? and should I mimic them on the cuffs of the pants? The fabric I am going to use is a pale purple and I will trim it in a very light peach ribbon. I am afraid that if I put all those ruffles on that it would be overbearing. I am also considering leaving the ruffles off the bottom of the shirt and putting them on the sleeves instead in order to tone down the ruffle effect. The age group she is entered in is 7-9 so I don't want to make her look really young. Anyway, thanks for the help.

My gd is 8 and she would say leave the shirt as is and put the ruffles on the pants as well but not on the sleeves. We've had this discussion about the ruffly shirts and looked at patterns similar. I think it's cute as is but that's one opinion.

Cute shirt. I would leave it as is and put the ribbon at the bottom of the pants.

Cute shirt! I'd leave it as is and put matching ribbon on the hems of the pants too. But then, I'm not partial to a lot of ruffles. Let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks so much for your replies, I appreciate it. I hate to say it, but I am actually going with a completely different pattern. It's the same pattern that I used for her previous sportswear, but I am doing it in a white, tone on tone fabric with the shirt being a bright teal satin. I will be sure to post pictures when I get it done. I have till Sunday to sew it up. I decided to go with this pattern because I already know how it looks on her and I don't have a lot of time for trial and error. Again, thanks for the input and I will be sure to keep it in mind when I do use that pattern.

Isn't that how it always is. Getting all excited about one pattern and end up using something totally different in the end.
