I'm not sure this is posted in the right forum but..... Seems I'm headed to Atlanta the week before Christmas as well as the first 2 weeks in January on business. Wondering if anyone here is from there and can me any info........weather (other than cold-I live in AZ-I don't know what cold is anymore! LOL), places to go, things to do, where the great fabric and quilt stores are!!! You know the important stuff so I can have a good time after slaving away all day in a town I don't know!! I did go on line and request a visitors brochure but really, if you want to know the best of everything, head for the locals I always say. Thanks in advance! Oh yeah, I also don't really know how large Atlanta is or where I'll be staying or even where the office is at the moment-we just opened a new office there and that info is to be forthcoming. Know that helps a lot, huh? Lyn

HOTlanta is H U G E and fulla traffic. If you've seen the traffic (or driven in it) in CA. thats about what it's like there too. It doesn't get really cold...sometimes in the 30's not often. H U M I D even in the winter. I'd say bring shorts, and pants, a light jacket just in case and an umbrella. Prices are HIGH. If you fly into Hartsfield, IT'S a maze....They have 'trains' to take you to the terminals. Make sure you get on the right train or else you wind up in another terminal. They have the usual stuff you'd find everywhere...JoAnn's, Hancocks. I'll ask around about quilt shops. I know my dealer goes there a LOT. Buckhead is the MOST exclusive and expensive place in ATL. If you have allergies, don't forget to bring meds. (my husband flies out of ATL once a wk or more and he has no allergies, but something about ATL makes him sneeze and cough). I'll post more tomorrow when I find out about the quilt shops... Kath Chrys

Thanks for the info Kath. I was afraid I would have to go buy a coat but I'm thinking maybe pull out a few sweaters from the back of the drawer that I never wear here in AZ and layer since I'm always hot anyway. I rarely even put a windbreaker on here in the winter. Been to LA so understand the traffic. Maybe this isn't such a hot deal for me after all...oh well...it will be nice to see someplace new and I have discovered that different parts of the country carry different fabric at times even in the same stores. Wish I had room to pack my sewing machine!

I live in Atlanta, and I have to second what the previous writer said about allergies. Even if you don't have allergies now, you probably will when you get here. This area of the country is extremly green, which is very nice, but the pollen will kill you. Even in January though, there is smog that will mess with your allergies. |

Got these from a a book of Quilt shops of the south. Most had CALL for directions on the ads, so I didn't bother with the addresses. InTown Quilts 404-874-7785 Quilt Essentials 770-413-1800 Stitch and Quilt 678-985-3456 Pintucks and Pinafores 770-384-1216 The different prefixes mean they're NOT IN ATL, but right outside. www.google.com might be helpful too. Thanks gals! I live on allergy pills now so that won't be any different. Looking forward to the trip.
