I'm so excited about this! But, I have no clue what it is used for! What is it and how do I use it? it came as one of the accessories with my new cheapie machine (which will not survive my first project) but I'd like to know what all the cool stuff does, so when I upgrade, I will know what I need and what will be an indulgent extravagance.........dare to dream :bluewink:
My dogs need clothes!

I am quite sure it's for putting over your feed dogs so you can free motion quilt. Some machines have a lever for dropping the feed dogs and some include a plate for covering them.

Have you ever heard of darning socks? Well, our foremothers would sew up the hole in socks and clothing by sewing back and forth across it. Many machines have the ability to let your sew back and forth across holes in fabric so that you can mend them. You sew back and forth and then turn the garment and sew back and forth again so that you more or less get a thread patch. More recently, this has been adapted and is often used for free motion quilting. Somepeople also apply trims and even do a free hand type of embroidery or embellishment using the darning mode.

Just a note, when women darned socks by hand, they had a small wooden egg that they would slip into the sock to stretch it as they darned so that they would not sew it closed or make it too small to wear.

Pam,
I recently learned that darning technique on the sewing machine when I glanced up from the serger for a couple seconds!!
