Hello Sewers! My name is Jean and I've been enjoying your chats for a few months now. So much good info here!! I've been sewing for a few years, but not well. So far I've been a sloppy sewer - don't cut straight, don't sew straight, don't follow directions etc etc. Thought I'd start with something simple and turn over a new leaf. I want to make a fitted crib sheet but can't find a free pattern online. I have a Bernina serger that I'm just learning to use, so want to try the sheets with the elasticator foot. Any advice? Where can I find a free pattern? Thanks, in advance for any help. |

Hi Jean, Welcome to Sew Whats New. As you have seen we have lots of great people here and I am sure someone will get an answer to you. I myself have not made fitted sheets, I always made the ones the slip over the top and bottom like a pillowcase. Summer

Thanks Summer and Deb. Appreciate your quick responses! Summer, I've never seen crib sheets like you mentioned. Is is easier to make the crib up with sheets like cases? The link you sent Deb looks great. I'll use those instructions. Went down and bought the flannel this afternoon. Can't wait to start the project. Jean |

JeanG, welcome! Hope the pattern suggested helps you. I haven't made the fitted sheets either.

Welcome Jean! Fitted sheets are very easy to make. I just made about 6 for my daughter's new baby. I think there is even a discussion in our forums on that under children's forum. Search for crib sheet! Hope you have lots of fun relearning how to sew. The one that you got from Debsews is the one I used, its really easy and worked great. Remember to WASH your flannel first, so it shrinks before you sew it.

I love this place. Good information, advice and support. Thank you all!!! Today I successfully completed 3 fitted flannel sheets and can hardly wait to try them out on my granson's crib. I was so inspired by your confidence in me that I also made a cool pillowcase for my other grandson. Finally, some projects completed that I'm proud of. They look good on the right side and the wrong side. Mother would be proud. |
