I started making some bent spoon ornaments today. I saw some years ago but just got around to making some for myself and to give as small gifts this year.
I'm sure some of you have seen some before. I bent the handles backwards and painted faces on the bottom part of the spoon. Some are snowmen and some are gingerbread men. I'll put a gingham bow at the bend in the handle and pom-pom earmuffs on the snowmen.
I found spoons at Walmart 6 for a dollar! DD is going to finish some of them for teacher's gifts.

If anyone has any other face ideas for the spoon ornaments, I'd love to hear them. :bluesmile

Hey Bama, I would love to see pics of your ornaments. I haven't ever heard of or seen them before, as for face ideas, sorry painting is not one of my strong points :bluesad:

I got one in a Christmas swap last year that was a Santa. The part of the spoon right above the bowl was his hat.

I'll try to get a pic when I finish them.

I might try the Santa idea. And maybe some elves.

Have you seen the wind chimes made from flattened old silverware? they are neat too and really have a lovely sound to them. My BIL made one.

bren,
I don't mind at all. Thanks for the link. :bluesmile That's the kind I'm making. I love the peppermint stripes on some of those. I think I'll add it to some of mine.

I made some silverwear wind chimes a few years ago after I bought a box of old silver-plated flatwear for $1 for the whole box. A man sold it to me so cheap because it was very tarnished and he said I'd have to polish them. I thought it added to the charm. :bluewink: When I told him what I had planned for all of it, he said he wish he had seen something like that before he put them in his yardsale. :nah: I made 6 wind chimes and still have some of the flatwear left.

Dorothy, I remember seeing spoon rings years ago. They are very pretty. How special to have one from a spoon that belonged to your mother. I love things like that. :bluesmile

Nice Mary...thanks for sharing and thanks for giving me a good idea. My late brother had sent me 3 slices of thin agate a year or so before he died and I didn't know what to do with them. After he died last year I pulled them out and wound coloured wire and beads and charms around them and hung them on fishing line....but didn't know what to put them on to hang them together. Nothing seemed just right until I saw the fork bent up as a holder and I knew that's what they needed.

DD and I have finished 12 snowmen ornaments and 12 gingerbread men ornaments.
Here's a tip for anyone planning to make some... I bought some spoons at Walmart for 6/$1 and more at a dollar store for 3/$1. The ones from Walmart are much easier to bend. I think the cheapest ones are better in this case.
I started the bend over the curve in my kitchen counter top and it was easy to finish the bend with my hands. I can't bend the ones from the dollar store with my hands, so if hubby can't bend them, we'll leave them straight and paint Santa's hats on the handles.

We're putting a bunch of our ornaments on our tree and giving the rest for those "just something small" gifts. We have about 2 dozen more spoons to use and look what I found today........

Santas made from forks!!! Wouldn't they be cute with the tines all curled up?
It looks like they used textured snow paint for the beard.
Looks like we need to make another trip to WalMart tomorrow for forks. DD and I will keep busy while we're home for our Thanksgiving holiday next week.

check next post for correct link

I bought some forks today. I just finished curling up the "beards" on some of them. I think they're so cute.
I still like the gingerbread men best though. I base coated more with gesso for those today. This time I'm adding the candy cane stripes. Most of the gingies are going on one of my trees.

I also picked up some cheap glass ball ornaments today. I'm going to spray paint them brown and paint gingerbread faces on them outlined with white squiggly "frosting" with demensional paint.
If anyone has more gingerbread ornament ideas, let me hear them! :bluesmile

Hopefully I'll be finished by next weekend so I can put up my trees. :monkey:

That is too cute. Maybe I can whip up some of those. I had planned to make little gingie men with some brown fabric I have, but now I think felt would be better.
I'm hoping I can find find some little wooden rolling pins at Michael's.

I'm taking the day off tomorrow so I can sew and craft. :bg: Then there's the rest of the week for our Thanksgiving Holiday. Wooohooooo
