I am making another vest for my son who now wants a pocket in it. It has those fake welts on the pattern and I figured I could just make a welt pocket then use the fake welt as a flap over the pocket. But I have no idea how to make a welt pocket or even have a pattern for one. Does any one have some easy directions or can you direct me to some?? It only has to be big enough to hold a credit card sized card. Thanks!

Clotilde has a product called double welt pocket maker that I find easy and reliable to use. I also have a smaller version for bound buttonholes that works great too. Mary |

Only problem is I need to make the vest in the next day or so, so ordering something is not going to be feasible unfortunately, but thanks!

Threads magazine has a great how to article this month on doing welt pockets! I was just reading it last night, has some pretty good step by step instructions with pictures for those of us that have yet to try those welt pockets

Check in the beginners sewing topics for fleece and pocket. Dorothy has instructions all written out. Good luck

For Catalina and anyone else interested. The Clotilde product is metal and looks like a giant (hair) barrette. You open the prongs and wrap the material around the prongs. Then you pull the ends through the center opening and close the prongs. Tighten the material and then place it over the right side of the jacket. Pull both ends to one side and stitch one side of the welt. Repeat on the other side. There are little marks on the "barrette" that enable you to make welts of different lengths. It is much harder to write about than it is to do it and it comes with good instructions. I think one of the best features of the product is that the welts always turn out exactly the same width along the entire length of the welt. HTH Mary |
