HI guys. i'm brand new here. i'm planning to apply to a fashion school for communication and they want me to learn the basics of sewing. obviously i don't know how. i would very much like to learn cause a) it would increase my chances of getting into that school and b) i could save alot of money making my own clothes lol.
anyways is there anyone in ottawa that knows of a place that teaches how to sew?? i've been looking everywhere and can't seem to find any.

please get back to me asap. post here or e-mail me <email address removed for privacy>!!

Hi Char16, welcome to SWN. I work in Ottawa but I am more of a quilter than a sewer. There are some quilting stores that give beginner sewing lessons - sometimes during the day, sometimes at night. You may find that the classes are already underway and they might not have any right now.

Quilts and Seams is on the corner of Kirkwood and Richmond Road. I believe they give private lessons but it could be expensive. Check out their web-site.

Another store, Sew For It, is in the west end at Moodie Drive & Richardson Road. I believe they give more sewing classes than quilting but I believe mainly during the day. Here is their web-site.

Here are two other places - but I don't know if they give basic sewing lessons.
Quilty Pleasures in Orleans on Blvd. St. Joseph near Jeanne D'Arc. They sell sewing machines but I wasn't able to get to their web-site - should be www.quiltypleasures.ca

Dragonfly Fabrics - off Alta Vista somewhere near Heron. Never been there but at the needlecraft show a couple of weeks ago I know they had a course to make a vest that I wanted to take in January.

Another place to try are the Fabricland stores. They may know of some other places to take beginner classes.

Good luck and if you need more info let me know and I will try to help.
