Any rubber stampers out there? I bought a rubber stamp to make 50 cards for the church to send to the shut-ins and I have a problem. There is one large spot in the middle of the stamp that won't release the ink. I thought I just didn't press hard enough on that spot but that wasn't it. I have cleaned the rubber stamp twice but it didn't help either. It's always the same spot that won't release. This is a large stamp that is mostly flat with the wise men and a saying "Wise Men Still Seek Him" cut away so they don't get ink on that portion. Not sure I'm explaining this right.
Anyway, any suggestions on how to get the rubber stamp to release the ink?
The rest of the stamp is fine. I have e-mailed the company that made the stamp but haven't heard back yet.

I sent your question to my DD who does a lot of stamping. This is her reply.

The only reason that would happen is if she's not pushing hard enough in the middle or the stamp is warped.....
I don't know.

Are you stamping more than 1 color? Sometimes the ink will dry before you stamp it. Can you wet it somehow & try that?
I'm not a stamper but have watch them do it quite a bit.

Sounds to me like your stamp is warped. Is this a wood mounted stamp? If so you could try to fix the probelm by adding a foam dot to the middle between the wood and the stamp. I have never done this but it is what I would try if I had your problem.

I rubber stamp, though not a whole lot. I agree with those thinking it's warped and Gina's idea is one I was thinking of as I read the postings. If you are using different colored inks (ie: coloring separate sections with marker pens) just before stamping take a deep breath and exhale on your stamp so that the mist from your breath will dampen the ink again and it should stamp fine...unless your stamp is warped. If you can get the rubber stamp off the wood, I would try putting the foam dot under the middle before reattaching the rubber to the stamp.

Let us know how it works out for you.

Can you take it back to the store and get another one that isn't warped? I think I'd try that before trying to change the stamp cause I'd screw up the stamp trying to fix it, then I couldn't take it back!

Hi,
Well I can't see any warp in it but I have pretty much given up on it. I think it's going back to the store. I still haven't heard from the company that made it. I bought it at Hobby Lobby so we'll see if they take it back.
Thanks for all the suggestions though.

I did call a local scrapbooking store that rents stamps (which is what I think I will do to get these 50 cards made) and they said they have had a couple of the large background stamps that had the same problem and they could not correct it either and pulled them off the shelf.

Here's an update - I finally got that one spot to release but it wasn't stamping evenly so I took the whole lot to the rubber stamp renting store/scrapbooking store and they tried it and said I was using the wrong ink pad. The one I had was fine for most stamping but negative image stamps and intricate stamps need VersaInk pads. I bought one and it worked great.

By the way, the renting of stamps is going over very well. I thought it was a pretty lame idea when they started out too but it works. For instance, if you are making cards for a special one-time occasion, instead of buying a couple of stamps you will never need again (and stamps are outrageously expensive in Canada) you rent them for $2 for the day for the first one, $1 per stamp for each day you keep them. Much cheaper then buying them.
Some people make their own Christmas cards and do all one design for everyone but change the design each year. So, again, they just rent the stamps each year.

Thanks for all the input

I guess that makes sense. I am going to try my hand at making my own cards this year too. I purchased several Christmas themed stamps at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 price so that made them really cheap. Less than $1.50 a stamp!
Never thought I would be much into rubber stamping but it does seem like fun!

You can say that again!! I started just going to "stamp camp" where a bunch of us got together with the demonstrator and made 3 cards for the evening, enjoyed seeing people & got to try out new ideas for $5. Had not planned to buy anything-just go for the fun. I have spent so much $$ on stamps and accessories, it's not funny! Almost as bad as my sewing/fabric bills! LOL It's loads of fun though and now go to several workshops a month rather than just the one.

Have fun!

Oh you poor dear - the bug had bitten and you have just begun your journey. Wait til they show you embossing and you have to buy an embossing tool and powder. Then they'll cleverly show you PearlEx powders and you will wonder how you ever managed to make a card without them.
Of course there is also the punches and special scissors you can't do without and have you tried the Fiskars rotary cutter with the shape cutters? Can't do without them...and then of course you will need the Fiskar's ShapeBoss to hold the shape cutters steady. Oh my, I'm working myself into a card making frenzy!!!! One more thing, next time you see the plastic drawers stacked together - buy two or three or maybe 4 - you'll need them!!!!
