Hi, can anyone give me advice re: buying a new machine ( last one was a bernina in 1968 - its still chugging along) Have been using a EuroPro for a couple of years, now ready to jump in to a "computerized model" I'm checking out the Brother NX 400 - does anyone else have that model? Just joined quilters guild - made my first table runner. Also checked out Janome 6260 QC but a little more money than the Brothers model. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Welcome to the boards! I'm sure someone here has the machine you are checking out. I'm partial to Singer myself.

I posted this question on another board. While you need to make a decision about the brand/features you want for sewing/quilting, you will also want to consider other options such as walking feet, 1/4" foot, free motion quilting ability, decorative stitching, automatic thread cutter (at the end of the seam)how about an embroidery mode..? I bought my Janome w/the goal to incorporate embroidered designs on my blocks. So far, I have not used it for that but will. Bernina just introduced a free motion foot that has a stitch regulator. Sounds awesome! I just hope Janome comes out with a version of this....learning free motion will take some time. Since my Janome is only 6 months old, I am not in the market for a new machine. I love my MC9700 though so that makes all the difference to me. Have fun learning and shopping. Read those quilting books too....they will inspire you! |

It was funny to see your post as dh is bugging me as to what I want for Christmas I started thinking about a new sewing machine I thought a nice computerized model would be fun. I looked online at the Brother NX-400, then did a Google search on them to see if anyone had reviews on them. Here is just one set of reviews, from Pattern Review (http://http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/topsearch.pl?search=1&tabletosearch=MachineReview&nofuzzy=1&extra=NX-400), some aren't as happy with them as I'd want to be, especially when they started talking about a clunking noise that comes from the machine
