I need to find a darning plate for my ls 1520, I've searched the brother site without luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

If you can't locate a plate you can improvise. I have seen some people just tape a piece of thin cardboard over the feed dogs. I have also seen pastic used, like the lid off a coffee can.
Good luck

I had forgotten. There is a darning plate made for your machine. It is actually a generic plate for all machines that don't have the ability to drop the feed dogs. Tell your local dealer the part number is P60402. He/She should know which distributors to get it from by that number.

I have the Brother XL 5130 and I have the darning plate with it. I have draw the design on the material and then do the embroidery using the hoop and moving the hoop. I have been trying to find designs and I think I have to look for coloring books to get my designs from.
