Let us be grateful For this year, let us grateful we are not among those who lost everything, including their lives, in the tsunami; For this year, let us be grateful we are not among those having to put their lives back in order after hurricanes Katrina and Wilma; For this year, let us be grateful we are not among those living in India where the earthquake changed lives irreparably; For this year, let us be grateful we are not one of the families who never take a deep breath while their sons, daughters, husbands or wives are serving in any military capacity; For this year, let us be grateful we are not among the poor, or the working poor, forced to live on the streets, with their children; For this year, let us be grateful for the many service people who live in the transparent backdrop of our lives: the police, the EMT’s, the firemen, caregivers and teachers; For this year, let us be grateful for whatever the reason is that we are not in any of these groups mentioned; For this year, let us be grateful that we have the compassion, the spirit and the ability to be the ones who support, in every way we’re able, those that are; Let us be grateful. |
