DH and I went to see Jarhead last night. It was really different from what I was expecting to see, but I did really enjoy it - it was very thought provoking at times and has left quite an impression on me. I'm wondering if anyone has seen it, and asking from a civilian's perspective, is that really what their life is like in the Marines? Did the movie seem somewhat realistic?? Or is it way out of touch??

My husband went with our 14-year-old friend. I don't care if I ever see it so I figured why waste the cost of an extra ticket. They liked it I guess. Shawn said it didn't make him want to join which is good news.
I, on the other hand, jumped at the chance to see the new Harry Potter this weekend and enjoyed that.

My hubby and I went to see it Sunday, on the recommendation of our Son who is active in the Nat'l Guard. We both enjoyed it, and I thought a lot about our Son as we were viewing it. Part of him wishes he could be where the action is, but I'm selfishly glad that he is stationed state-side as an instructor. What I appreciated about the film was that it was based on the memoirs of someone who was there. So many of the movies released these days seem to be remakes or totally unreal.

I didn't realize that it was based on someones memoirs! It's funny, I keep thinking about it and what life must be like for anyone in the military, including those who are left at home. It has really made an impression on me.

Haven't seen it yet, DH wants to see it as he was actually there when he was in the military. Think he wants to see someone else's view versus his own. Now our 15 yo dd wants to see it too, he isn't sure he wants to take her with him to see it, he was worried about content in the film. Said he would feel funny if there were scenes of things he thinks there might be that the guys would do on leave :bluewink: So those that seen it how was the content? It looked like they went to a huh club of sorts during leave? I'll take her if he doesn't want to, he gets squamish around the teen daughters with that subject matter :whacky:

Well Laura, the language sure made me blush! There are a few small woman parts in this movie, no sex scenes, some crude scenes with the guys, a bit of blood, but mostly its the language and some raunchy suggestions and actions, which counts for the 18A rating here. Don't know if that helps much. I think I'd be leary about my 15yr old daughter seeing it(if I had one), as personally I don't think its suitable for a teenager to see. Now again, some parents let their kids see pretty much anything, and some of the horror shows that are on would make this seem quite tame. I guess all I could say would be to also check out the information on the internet about the movie.

Laura I do understand what you are saying, but you would probably be shocked at what & how the teens today talk. This dd tells me just about everything, we are really close, so I hear allot about what the kids at school are doing, saying, etc. She is in 9th grade, which is high school here, and it just floors me, the language, the information, they know more then I even could imagine at that age. I was probably way over 21 before I knew allot of the things they know! I'll probably see the movie with DH first, then decide if I'll take dd to see it from there. As far as blood - she wants to be a nurse, spends allot of time watching surgery shows on TV now, talked about doing the military with dh - think it is part of the interest of the movie, besides that she knows this movie shows the war dad was in.
