Avoid it! It's not like your regular fleece. I'm talking about the stuff that feels oh so nice. looks a little like terry cloth, but when you cut it flakes all over the place and sticks to everything. I just spent a whole bunch of time cutting some of this stuff to sew a shirt and I'll tell you it's misery. I managed to sew 2 sleeves with a straight stitch (since that's all my old Singer does, works great by the way) only to find out that I can pull little pieces of the fabric out (I can only imagine what it would be like after 1 wash). So, I hope you all know what type of fabric I'm referring to, if not, I hope you never come across this stuff. I'm going to try to return it back to JoAnn's since it's unusable. |

Boy, I've been reading a lot about people getting bad fleece. I did buy some anti-pill stuff from Joannes that washed and sewed up fine. Excatly what kind of fleece is that I wonder. I get so confused at Joanns looking at their fleece- all different prices and you wonder whats good and whats not. |

not a fleece tho, right? I think you've described something a lot like Minkie. There's a plain, smooth version and a textured version that has round polka dots in raised bumps all over it. It feels soooooooooo nice, and it sews like a bear. I think it's best for a baby's blanket--simple things with straight seams and encased edges.

There is a new fabric at wal-mart that is put out by Springs. It looks and feels like a high nap terry cloth on both sides and is oh so soft and snuffly, but it is 100% polyester. I think that is what is being referrred to. I was going to buy a couple yards to make doggie tees, but at 8.74 a yard - I don't think sew! Beautiful colors too, pink, blue, true soft yellow, white and cream.

Beautiful colors too, pink, blue, true soft yellow, white and cream. I think we're referring to the same fabric. When I was at Walmart they had a red, navy blue, and a purple-blue color. It's really soft on 1 side with a nap similar to terry cloth and blankety on the other side, when it's cut little pieces go everywhere and stick to everything, lots of static cling. I went to JoAnns and purchased some for 40% off a yard, when the girl started to cut the stuff I knew there'd be some problems (she had to clean up the stuff with a vacuum after it stuck to her clothes, the table, floor, etc.) but nothing that I couldn't work with. Well, I found out that when you pull on the fabric you can pull little pieces of it out. As for the regular fleece, I've never had any problems buying the anti-pill fleece from JoAnn's, just make sure you pick and choose. I like to stick with microfleece, Polartec, or choose what looks similar to those 2 types of fabric. Did a little research and found out the name of the fabric is FLURR. Here's a picture of the stuff: https://www.fleecelady.com/images/items/362/Flurr_swatch120.jpg |

It sounds like they don't tie the threads off so they are just wrapped around the a backing or something. I purchased an expensive rug like that a few years ago and it didn't wear well at all. I can't imagine how bad it would look after a few washings in the laundry (not to mention what it might do to your washer and dryer.)

I was wondering if you were talking about the 'cabbage swirl, and dimple fabric we have here, its almost like a very soft rabbit fur, but is a polyester, and a knit. It was horrible when being cut, fuzzies everywhere, but once sewn up, it seems to hold up ok. I even pulled and pulled at the fabric to see if I could pull out pieces and couldn't. But I sure will watch for the stuff you got, and avoid it like the plague.
