Hi All, I am having a terrible time trying to sew the elastic on my little granddaughter's new mittens. I tried stretching the elastic across the expanse of the mitten but there was no "puckering" as I would have expected. I ended up throwing them down, saying my granddaughter doesn't need mittens....not true, she will have a matching jacket, hat and mittens if I can get the elastic on correctly. If someone knows, please help, my little family is returning to Seattle in a few days and I really want my little one (9 months old) to have her complete ensemble.....Thank you in advance!!! Dacia

Are you talking about mittens that have the elastic in the wrist, so they are gathered at the wrist but still have a 'cuff' that goes over the sleeve? I've put elastic on mittens like that and put it on after sewing up one side of the mitten, stretch out the skinny elastic on the mitten and zigzag stitch it, then sew up the other side seam. Is your elastic too long?? Laura

Check your elastic. If it doesn't have good rebound when you start, (some just don't) you'll have stretched out elastic when you finish.

Thank you both! I didn't think about how stretchy my elastic is or how to get it on the fleece. Yes, it's for mittens with the elastic on one side. I appreciate your replies and wish you both a Happy Thanksgiving!! Sincerely, Dacia
