There is a lengthen/shorten line on some of my pattern pieces. If I want to make my pattern longer by say, 2 inches, how do I do it? Do I make a tracing of the pattern and cut it on that line and add a 2 inch piece of paper and tape it back together? That doesn't seem right, but I'll do it if that is the way it is done. Sorry for the stupid questions. My user name really is accurate.

That is usually how I do it unless I don't want to cut the pattern then I trace the pattern piece and do it. I find I shorten most of mine. |

If I don't trace the pattern, I just cut on the line and place a piece of paper underneath to lengthen and tape it down. If I am shortening, I just fold the pattern and fold under the excess down the sides. Some patterns have a measurment gauge on the side that actually allow you to measure the amount as you take it out. pam

Yep, I just add another piece of paper in the space. Unfortunately I don't have any thin tissue paper so it makes refolding the pattern a bit awkward. Thin paper would be best though. Katie |

When I cut out patterns, I have a basket that I put all the larger pieces of tissue in from the patterns that doesn't have any writing on it, and I also have $1 packs of white tissue paper that I use for taping in place when I am lengthening patterns (which happens most of the time being tall and having sons that are 6'2 and 6'5) I also use this tissue under my fabric when making button holes or if I'm sewing something that sticks to the needle plate, like a rubberized fabric, sure helps!
