I'm new to Janome Embroidery and am wanting to inexpensively increase my capability. I'm not sure if the Amazing Box II, Mini Amazing Box or Janome customizer will give me the most options. I can't seem to find enough info on the Janome customizer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Which machine do you have? How are your designs transferred from the computer? You don't always need a box unless you have designs from another brand or your machine takes cards (only). I bought one because I was new to embroidery and everyone said I'd need one. Since I was new, I didn't have any cards and since the cards hold fewer designs than the CD's I haven't purchased any cards in another format or had reason to even use my box. In my case, I can transfer the designs from the computer directly (or mine has a CD player for the machine.) It also has an unused card slot. I know that some of the Janome machines use flash drives for transfer.

I have the Janome MC 10000 and you can transfer designs from the computer to your machine if you have the customizer. Also, I can put the designs on a card and put that directly into my machine. I have downloaded many free designs in my the sew or jef program and then transferred them to my machine directly, or put them on the card. It's inexpensive and fun!

I think that one of the girls here has many Janomes and can probably give you more detailed information than I can--I still don't know all the wonderful things my machine can do! LOL

We need to know what Janome you have...the 10000 uses flashcards ( like your digital camera, with adapter), usb cable (directly from your computer), cards FROM Janome (fit into the flashcard slot). Multi format CD's bought, can be put on your machine from USB or flash card.

YOU WILL NEED Customizer in ANY CASE. Otherwise you will not be able to send ANY patterns to your machine, flashcards OR USE the USB cable.

If you have the 10001. It's upgraded from the 10000. No much difference, just MORE patterns and 1200 designs to EACH flashcard (instead of 1000).

If you have the 11000....(new this yr.) USB, Flash Cards, Memory Sticks, CD rom (Janome or your computer) Janome Cards. (whatever fits in the 10000, fits in the 11000...except the Memory sticks, those are new).

You dealer should have told you all this when you bought your machine and they should have made sure you know how to use it.

I have the Janome 300E. It does have a slot for a card, but I don't see where it would take a CD. I read somewhere that you can get an adapter so that memory sticks, etc. can be used in the machine, but I didn't understand how it could convert it to my format. Also, would an Amazing Box, Mini Amazing Box or Janome Customizer be my best option on software? I read the Janome Customizer is just software and that you don't need a reader/writer to put it in the machine. I'm assuming it must come with a card that fits the machine. Sorry, I guess I'm just very green. My last embroidery machine was a Singer Quantum Futura, which was awful! I traded it in on the Janome. Thanks for all of you information so far and I look forward to more.

The 300E is embroidery only. You may use flash cards, or Janome cards.
CD's MUST be put on flash cards, YOU HAVE to have Customizer to do this.
You may only USE EMBROIDERY FOLDER #5 for the 300E and you may only PUT 100 patterens on folder #5.

You cannot use Memory Sticks in the 300E....ONLY THE 11000.

10000, 11000 and 300E's ONLY USE jef. format NOTHING else. If you have other patterns, you MUST convert them into jef. format. Some people use Embird, I happen to like BuzzXplore (it converts, catalogs and unzips).

Customizer is ONLY for use on Janome Machines. It will only put patterns together. (ie. letters or pics in certain patterns, ovals, whatever.) it can only be used to put your CD's or ONLINE downloads ONTO Flash Cards.

You NEED a reader/writer to use the flash cards. Flash cards DO NOT come with Janome Machines. If you BUY Janome Cards, They fit in the slot, BUT ARE NOT FLASH CARDS. The reader/writer is not connected to your machine, it's connnected to your computer. 300E's do NOT use USB cables.

www.clubj.onlinesewing.com Jim who owns the site can and will answer all your questions anything Janome. Your dealer should help you too.......

Here is a link to the Janome Site. I have heard from Janome 300E owners that they do take compact flash with an adapter both appear to be available from any computer supply store and do not appear to be specific to your brand. I've heard from several 300 users who use this method. You'd also be well served to purchase some software. I don't think you will be fully satisfied with any embroidery machine without suitable software.
