Am I hearing things? Did President Bush (the sitting one) really get called for Jury Duty in Texas? Wouldn't he be exempt from the time he took office?
This is a new one on me, any U.S. History majors out there?

Do they have Jury Duty in Canada and other Countries?

I think they would excuse him right off. The secret service (not to mention the press) would be too much of a disruption for the trial.

As of this morning he was still planning on doing his duty. Why should he be exempt? He is still an American citizen. If he doesn't show up it will look like he is using his title to get out of it. The press would have a heyday. I am proud of him for not trying to get out of it.

He got a postponement due to a scheduling conflict. He is kinda busy right now...but apparently he has a choice of dates between January and June next year.
Take care,
Donna

Actually it is not his choice. But the judge or one of the attorneys could dismiss him.

Picture it, you go to court for a jury trial, (you being the one being charged)
only to have the seated President of the United States on YOUR jury!!!!! Doesn't matter if you are found guilty or not, just think of the story you have to pass down in your family tree!!!!

I realize that as President, he is almost obliged to serve as an example. However, aren't active service personnel excused? After all, he is the Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces.

Gee Chrys, makes you wonder how that Jury Deliberation would have gone once it went to the Jury. Wonder who they would pick for the Foreman, (hehehehe)
How many times would he/she have tried to over-rule the Attorneys from the Jury Box. better yet try to hold someone in Contempt of Court from the Jury Box!!!!!!!!

It might seem funny to everyone else but likely the person on trial wouldn't feel like they were getting a fair trial.
Although I once covered a trial for the paper where it was in the defense's best interest to have a jury of people that were not to bright and never read newspapers -- so Bush might have worked for that one.

Not sure if he could get out on the Armed Forces thing or not. I know that when my husband was still using his parents house (Illinois) as his permanent address he was excussed. But since we have lived here in Texas he has already served once. Might be different states have different laws.
My husband told me an iteresting tidbit last night. It seems that when Bush was Govenor he was called to jury duty, but was dismissed because the lawyers didn't want a member of the jury that had the power to grant the accused a pardon.

Now that's a point. Although the Pres. rarely (if ever) would intervene in a case.

Bush will not do jury duty. Everytime they mention swearing to tell the truth Bush passes out, seems he has a fear of truth LOL.... Kidding!!!
