I finished my practice piece pull-on skirt! Granted, it's not the prettiest thing I've ever applied a needle to but it's the Minnie Mouse skirt I never finished (part of a forgotten Halloween outfit). I wanted to get the feel of the machine (Kenmore 16231 - $100 off on sale) and get the material out of my sewing box. The skirt is done but I haven't figured what material to use for the polka dots. Any suggestions? I was thinking of iron-on interface......and then adding a couple of stitches to secure it. Is that cheating? I'm going to try to make some basic curtains for my dd's Winnie-the-Pooh bedroom - maybe then I'll try the blind hem stitch next time. I know how it works, but I'm hung up on how the material gets folded. I've found only 1 person who knows how to sew that lives somewhat nearby. There's not too much sewing going on in Hunterdon County. I think FabricLand is starting classes in Jan 2006. They'll keep me posted. - Maureen.

If you wanted to use cotton for the dots in your skirt you could stick them on with that stuff you iron on to both sides. You iron it on the dots first then just iron them on to the skirt. You don't have to finish the edges then and can just sew around them on the machine to hold them on. Dorothy |

I agree - I'd get the double sided steam-a-seam for the dots! Then you could use a small zig-zag and/or satin stitch around the edges of the dots to maintain them.

Blind stitchiing is easy once you try it, do it on a scrap fabric first. I was going to look for a sample on the internet for you and started laughing when the first one that came up was from Sew-Whats-New. Here's a link to it" http://www.sew-whats-new.com/sewinglessons/blouse/class5.shtml It's under the shell blouse project by Julie Timmel Laura

You could also use fabric paint/pens to do the dots.....
