Hi,
I'm just wanting to know if people are happy with a computer program
that Nancy's Notions' sells called PatternMaster Boutique.
Thank you.

I have the PMB program. It overwhelms me with the drafting processes used. I was able to draft a muslin with the help of the PMB on line group. My program was purchased through the SEE IT SEW IT site. Heather Klaus is the person in charge of it. She offers many on line sewing classes. After taking her Pants 101 class I feel more comfortable using the PMB program. PMB is an excellent program if you have drafting skills and can relate to what the finished garment should look like. I have sewn for many years and did not have the drafting skills used by PMB. I will give it another try and hopefully will get the end result I want. Good luck to you if you decide to purchase the program.

I have been using Pattern Master Boutique for several years, and I am very happy with it. There was a learning curve for me when I first got it, but I found that it got easier each time I did something new. If you have questions that you need help with, log on to the PMB forum that Wild Ginger runs. You get to it from the link on the opening page on your PMB program. Also, don't hesitate to call the folks at Wild Ginger. They have the best customer service of any company I have ever known! NAYY, just a very happy customer.

Here is a link to the company that makes them. They have free downloads so you can see how to use the different things they sell. They also have a wonderful free program for making hats bags and a few other accessories. http://www.wildginger.com/

PMB & Wild Ginger - I'm coming in late, been a while since I've been at the boards with Christmas, and family things. :whacky: But I also own the PMB program, along with that I own the Child's Play which is Wild Ginger's Children's pattern drafting software. I love them both. I will say that they have wonderful customer support, & I think that is the biggest thing when you are learning something like this. I bought Child's Play first, as my youngest dd is stocky & didn't fit RTW nor patterns without lots of work! Child's Play allowed me to input her measurements and give me a much closer fit of pattern the anything I could buy. Now I had never done any pattern drafting, there is a learning curve with any software, let alone pattern drafting, but once you get the basic understanding down you can move on to so much more. They also include in each program what the call Pattern Editor which allows you to either tweak the computer drafted programs and/or draft you own free style! Pattern Editor is another learning curve of its own, but is so much fun in the end! It has allowed me to take store bought pattern styles and/or RTW styles and recreate them totally in my stocky dd's perfect size! So I'm one that loves the software! Think I want their Curves software for knits, lingerie, etc - I've been a Wild Ginger User now for around 3 years! Just a happy user ... Not affiliated ... yadda yadda :bluewink:

I've used PMB for several years, after trying to use a couple of others earlier.
There is no equal to PMB. As one said, there definitely is a learning curve, and it does take some effort and time to learn all there is - but it definitely
is worth it. The new online help that replaced the old print manual in the last update is unbelievable. As was said, the support system and forums are unsurpassed. One thing I didn't see mentioned that is very helpful, especially in learning the program, is the number of local and area user groups through-
out the country. Groups meet once a month or some interval, discuss the program, problems, sometimes have programs, do projects, teach each other, really a great resource.
If you make the effort, you'll love it.

The groups sound like a wonderful thing, but not to lead anyone astray you need to be in a larger metro area if you want to be in a group, and they aren't everywhere. Or you can travel. In the 3 years I've had the software I haven't personally been to a group meeting yet, the closet group is about 3 hours away one way drive, with kids & family 6 hours total drive is long. For me Indiana really has no groups - have to hit either St Louis area group or the Dayton/Cicinnatti group which are both so far away!

I was looking at the software online, how hard is the editor to use (I was having some flashbacks to when I first started to use a digitizing programme for embroidery, I can do it now but don't enjoy it at all) Looks tempting! :bluewink:

Personally I didn't think it was that hard, the harder part was understanding pattern drafting itself. The Pattern Editor section of the software is an Auto Cad program, drawing, using lines, etc. I had used Visio in the past so Auto Cad wasn't too bad, just different. For people that aren't accustomed to using software may have a harder time, but you may not have much trouble since you have used some with the embroidery. Have you downloaded the software to look at? Downloading & playing with it gave me another chance to see if it was something that was going to work for me. I also purchased one of the Click & Sew programs to see how the software drafted & went together. Click & Sew doesn't have the Editor function, but gives you some view of the software on-long with the download.

That is Phyllis, just one of us that uses PMB and/or the Wild Ginger software, she does have a decent website listing though. I also like Beth's:
http://www.rustybobbin.com/. At Beth's go to the gallery, then select the PMB catergory to see all her PMB items, she is a wealth of knowledge too! We have gentleman, Fred, that has just started a website, http://www.sewmanly.com/, he loves to sew for women, and teaches other men the love of sewing, he also uses PMB. There are allot more that use blogs and such, I just can't remember everyone off the top of my head

One thing that has been the least mentioned throughout all these posts is the learning curve and effort required. True, you're not going to just pick it up and start drafting. But I've come to this conclusion after a few years of using the program and talking with many users. The difficulty and time it takes to learn to efficiently and successfully use the program is in direct relation to the amount of interest and effort you put into it. There is an abundance of information and help available. You just have to look around on the program and then stay with it.
