I'm making a stuffed animal for my niece...out of polar fleece. The instructions recommend stabilizing the eye area with fusible interfacing so that the safety eyes don't pull through. With the nature of fleece, I think it's especially important to do this. But...how? I've never had success getting fusible to adhere to fleece. I do have some sew-in, but would I just use a small piece and let it flap in the breeze...or would I have to cut a piece big enough to fit my whole pattern piece?

OR could I use wonder-under? I think that would be more of a mess than the fusible interfacing...

Any suggestions are welcome!

If I can't figure this out, I have alternate eyes that I can just sew onto the surface...but they're not quite as nice as the ones with the posts.

I would use the sew in type and cut it to the size of the pattern piece and sew it into the seams. This will give the face a more stability if she tugs on the eyes. I don't think that anything that has to be melted to the fleece (wonder-under, fusible interfacing) is a good idea. Those items normally call for a hot iron. The fleece would probably melt before the glue does.

I just used fusi-knit in a jacket and it worked fine.
Use a press cloth when you apply it.

Why not embroider an eye? I have an applique on my fleece coat pocket which is an abstract snow owl. The owl is white and I cut out the eye section making the eye the same as the pocket material. You could cut out a white oval eye and cut out a pupil, leaving it the same as the stuffed toy or putting some black fabric behind in the centre. Nothing could be pulled off once it is sewn. I think you would have to put the eyes in before you sewed the head pieces together, which may take a bit of calculating where the eyes are to be.
Good Luck.
