I made the flannel pajamas for my dd and they really look cute. I found a cute print but it was hard trying to find a pattern that didn't require a stretch knit. The pattern said it could be completed in two hours. Mine was more like two days. But I laid everything out and took my time. I even added the ribbed neckband correctly! I had a little elastic left over after doing the waistband so I added it to the leg openings. This way her pant legs will stay down when she's sleeping - that girl moves all over the bed during the night. My friends couldn't stop laughing when they saw the size of the pajama top - it could be a nightgown. I guess it's better being too long than too short. Friends aren't laughing now when they ask me to hem their pants! - Maureen.

mozeyrn-- It takes me at least two days to finish a two hour pattern and I've been sewing for years. Sounds like you are doing great. Dorothy |

Dont' you feel good to have finished the pj's? I have countless patterns for pj's that are easy if you want to look at some of them online. None of them require the ribbing and most of them have one button at the top. very easy stuff! I love to do pj's and since Oct I've made about 16 pairs. Trying to wrap up the last of it this weekend. I have 9 DGC that I sew for. |

Debsews - I'd like to attempt pj's with a button. I have the automatic buttonhole feature on my machine so it should be simple (at least the book makes it seem simple). I'm still looking for jammies that will be warm (it's a little colder up here). I'd appreciate any advice regarding patterns! If I try to sew with a knit material can I use the same presser foot that I used for flannel? Thanks for any help! I'm starting to get excited about sewing and want to stay with some simple things before getting ahead of myself. - Maureen.

It seems I hadn't read the pattern correctly. The pattern for view A could be a nightgown or a pj top, depending on where the fabric was cut. I missed the shorter cut line so I ended up making the nightgown. I sat down tonight trying to figure out what went wrong when I saw two feet above the hem line that there was another line, another cutting line. I may get more material so I can make the top - the nightgown came out so good that I hate to cut it.
- Maureen.

Sounds like you did pretty good. Most of the time it would go more like you want the longer one and accidentally cut the shorter one. At least that is how it would go for me. Half the fun of sewing is creating as you go -- especially making up for mistakes. The other half of the fun is getting it right. Sometimes it seems more like a 60-40 split. Dorothy |

I'll give you the numbers later today when I get back from church. They're all really easy or i wouldn't have done them. My dgd likes to have the pants with a nightgown so she doesn't get cold before bed and then she takes them off and wears the nightgown to bed. If you made the top also she would have the choice. So many things you can do if you make a little cutting error. Usually I'm trying to fix something so you're way ahead of the game. No mistakes in sewing, just designs!!! |

I made these for my son Saturday morning. I used a Dale Earnhardt Jr. Fleece and he LOVES them. I had to pry them off of him so I can wash them. http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B4222=x&TI=10009&page=5 AMIEMama to Gavin, 3 ½ years oldKenmore 385.12116690

I do not know where these people that draw up the patterns get their time frames. I mean years ago my first quilt was a machine quilt in a day and the book was by Ellen Burns I think. It took me weeks. Sewing has taught me a couple of things. To be patient and if something goes wrong do not haul off and throw it out the window or even worse throw it out. Oh and a little bonus, I now read instructions and manuals!!!!! |

If you look closely at those 2 hour Patterns they say actual sewing time in really small letters. That 2 hours has nothing to do with fabric prep, layout, cutting or pinning.
