DS wants something embroidered on the snowboarding jacket I'm making. Not too big but something. This is nylon fabric with waterproof backing. I can't see embroidering right onto the fabric, but I've seen it done on jackets. So what do I do, or would it be better to do an applique and sew it on. I know I'll have to waterproof behind wherever I put it but I can't imagine making all those holes in the fabric!!!!

I don't know if this is the answer you need but, Clotilde sells a thing called Sticky Stuff. You can do an embroidery or applique. Cut it out & them put this glue like stuff on the back of it & it will stay on your item. Can remove it, put in in a plastic bag or saran wrap & reuse it without putting more on the back side. It doesn't leave any kind of marking or such on your material. I have used it. It will make most anything self stick. |

Just how wet do you think this jacket will get and how often? I have seen embroidery on waterproof jackets and it seems to be the same as other embroidery with regular stabalizer on the back. I can't think what size or type of needle or thread you would use, but experiment on a scrap. If you think it will be getting wet enough to wet through a patch of embroidery could you use the fluid that you are going to use to waterproof the seams? I always appliqued my children't snow suits years ago and the material was pretty stiff nylon as there weren't many choices then. I had no problem and they loved them. I have a delightful picture of my little girl with a huge raggety anne on the whole front of her one piece snow suit. Mind you they were lined with padded fabric for warmth. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

Well Nancy, considering this is a 26 yr old male I'm thinking that it shouldn't get really wet, unless he falls down alot while boarding I like the idea of putting the 'seam stop' stuff on the back of the embroidered area, if it can waterproof a seam, it should work on something like that.
