I have been sewing merrily away for days. It's been so good. Then, all of a sudden my machine made an awful noise. The bobbin won't move. I called my dealer and she said probably the timing is off. Funny though, it sewed just fine all this time. Why it would just suddenly go kablooie is kind of odd. I have one more camisole to make then I am finished with my Christmas sewing.

Mary, I have the same machine you do (2044). If you can remove the bobbin casing, check behind the actual casing to see if a thread is wound around the post the bobbin mechanism fits on. I had that happen to me and when I found the end of the thread and started unwinding it, I was amazed at how much thread had wrapped around that post behind the actual bobbin assembly. Patsy Patsy

I removed and cleaned everything. No thread bits. A lot of fluff from all the flannel I have been sewing but that was about it. When I take the needle out, the flywheel moves easily. If I put the needle back in, it won't. My dealer is pretty good and said she would try and have it back to me tomorrow night.

Dealer just called. It isn't the timing. There is a screw of some sort that is not doing it job due to metal fatigue??? They can't tell me when it will repaired. I have an old antique Singer that my son bought for me. I have cleaned that up and it stitches fine. Now to see if it will behave long enough to make one more satin camisole. Cross your fingers. White satin isn't going to work with this old workhorse. I put an IOU in the gift pkge. for my daughter. I owe her a camisole. Haven't heard from dealer as to how long or what is going on. Just one of those things.

Mary, I can sympathize with you. Murphy's Law...Whatever can go wrong will. HeyJudee's Law...If something's going to go wrong it will will go wrong before a holiday weekend. Last week I dropped my feed dogs to do some free motion quilting. I finished and turned off the machine. Then the next night I went back to sew on the binding...the feed dogs would not come back up. I had to get out my old machine to sew it. Luckily I was able to take my machine in to the shop the next day and got it back the day after...the feed dogs only needed to be oiled. TTFN from

"Last week I dropped my feed dogs to do some free motion quilting. I finished and turned off the machine. Then the next night I went back to sew on the binding...the feed dogs would not come back up." I don't know whether this was what happened in this case, but for everybody's knowledge, on many mechanisms, when you trip the button/lever for the feed dogs to come up, they will remain down until the mechanism is rotated up to one full turn. It's kind of like a cog having to go into a notch on a wheel that only comes up once per rotation. Usually, in situations like this, the best thing for the mechanism is to rotate the hand wheel by hand to re-engage the mechanism before you start the motor. Frequently, you will hear a click as things drop into place. Bill Holman |
