What do you do with a fat quarter? I got a bunch for Xmas with few that would go together. Not being a quilter I'm not sure what to do with them. Got an idea? Dorothy |

You could use them to make purses or other small items. Possibly some small stuffed creatures if you like to make those too. Here's an example but you don't have to do a fish; I'm just nuts like that. http://themary.org/DSCN2101.JPG |

You can make clothes out of fat quarters. There are patterns for Jackets, Jumpers and Camp shirts (Rag Merchant is one of the companies that does fat quarter clothes.) -I- think they're cute and practical...

See, Dorothy, That's why I love you!! I'd be clueless on how to use those too! All of my crafty friends would have great ideas with all these clever little "things"....and then there'd be me. I do know that some of the people from my sewing club make sweat based jackets out of them.

Here's a link to a Fat Quarter Tote bag which is really cute! There are other patterns as well. I did a search on 'fat quarter': http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?search=Fat+Quarter+&TI=10014&M=&pageSize=9 Judy Sall Originals

Ah, such lovely ideas. But my husband bought these and NONE of them go together. Not color, not pattern, not theme. But I'm sure I will find good uses for them. Dorothy |

Thats Ok...make yourself a 'crazy quilt' jacket...theres a pattern that uses a sweatshirt as it's base and you sew the fat quarters onto it, you can use all kinds of fun stitches OR just make it plain quilted. They wear them EVERYWHERE here...the more colorful the better. Chrys

How about a crazy quilt tie for your dh? If he liked them enough to buy them, he might like them enough to wear.... Judy Judy Sall Originals

Here's the plan to use those FQs 1. gather up the mismatched FQs 2. Get in your car and go to your favorite fabric store 3. Proceed to purchase fabric that coordinates with your fat quarters. 4. Go ahead and get everything else you need to finish whatever project you're going to do with the FQs 5. Go home and sew. 6. Show hubby the finished product and thank him for buying you something that was so cool and sparked your creativity. Shelly Moon

Oh no! Look out, Dorothy's going to go crazy in the fabric store~!! Everytime I tried to go by one thing to match something I end up with all sorts of extra fabric cause I just can't help myself. Is there a fabricaholic anonymous somewhere I can join?? Have FUN Dorothy, wish I could go with you but I'm banned from buying anymore until I get some stash sewn up (unless I can sneak in and get the fabric for the King sized quilt I want to make)

Laura -- You mean Dorothy's going crazy in the fabric store again. Or Dorothy's still going crazy in the fabric store. Or maybe Dorothy is crazy in the fabric store. But not til I get paid. I fear my check will be late with two holiday Mondays and I don't dare spend it til my bills are paid. Dorothy |

Nah Bridesmom, we've never formed a "frabiholics anonymous" group cause none of us want to be cured of our addiction!! Here was my reasoning todaywhen I was in Hancock's: The lady that takes care of my mom asked me to make a couple more bibs for her to use when feeding my mom but to make them out of white terry cloth so she can bleach them to keep them stain free. Okay, I have enough white terry cloth to make 2 hooded baby bath towels for gifts so I figured I'd hop into Hancock's and pick up another yard or so of white terry cloth and have enough to make both bath towels and 2 or 3 adult bibs. Not. Of course, Hancock's did not have white terry cloth in stock so my reasoning was buy 1-1/2 yds each of yellow and blue for the baby bath towels and use the white terry cloth I already have for bibs for my mom. So, how's that for reasoning to buy more fabric? Of course, then I decided to buy 2 each of yellow and white and blue and white gingham binding for the baby towels and white binding for the bibs, however, I did not buy any fabric for myself either garment or quilting fabric.
