Are any of you into finding out your Families past? What have you been able to find here and overseas as good sites to help in your hunt? We have been able to use the site that the Mormons have set up here in the States but still need to find another good site in the British Isles to help us. How has your luck been? |

This is my brothers web page on our family. I am not sure where he got all of his info except when traveling he visits cemetaries & libraries looking for info. My Father's father was adopted so it was hard to go very far there. The large picture shows my imediate family, Parents, 2 brothers, 5 sisters (1 passed away), spouses, kids, grandkids, I am in the middle by Dad My kids are the ones down in front of me. This was taken 9 years ago so we were all a lot younger. http://pages.prodigy.net/memonroe/ Barb

I have been searching my family tree for a couple of years and it is a lot of work sometimes but very rewarding when you hit the "jackpot"...which is accurate information! My gr.gr.grandparents came from England and I have not had to use the first two sites below as other researchers had lots of info on the Willett family, they are suppose to be very good sites. I found so much information on the www.rootsweb site that it is my favorite. It has references for anywhere in the world as well. Good luck http://www.britishancestors.com/ http://www.genesreunited.co.uk http://www.rootsweb.com Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

I'm lucky. My Great-grandfather and an aunt did all the footwork years ago. Back then, there was a lot of writing back and forth to various geneology societies, court recorders, churches, library research, contacting shirt-tail relatives, etc. that went into putting the family tree together. I'm sure it would be a lot easier today. However, I think the old practice of recording births, deaths, marriages, etc in the family Bible probably helped too. I was thrilled when I first heard that our family had been traced back to William the Conqueror, but later found out almost anyone with ties to the British Isles could probably make the same statement. Yup, just about Judy. Just like eveyone in the west country has some spaniard washed up from the Armada in their family. Makes you wonder how many of theose "we came over with the Conqueror" people were the ragamuffins and rif-raf followers as opposed to the Norman Dukes.... have you looked at the census on line? http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ or this one http://www.ancestry.co.uk/landing/uki/lifers_html/index.htm?o_xid=21531&o_lid=21531&offerid=0%3a723%3a0 love and kisses, Jan

My in-laws have a family bible from the 1600's. (yes I typed that correctly). I'm Italian, Irish and American Indian. Since everyone in my family is dead. I have no way to search...names don't mean much if ancestors came from Europe and names were changed. Or if you're Amercian Indian, if you can't confirm that with a tribe, by family names, you're out of luck there too. So good luck with YOUR search. It's easy if you have someone to talk to and names to go with... Kath Chrys
