I've looked and looked, but can't seem to find a simple project-I want to create a toilet lid and tank cover combo...any ideas? I don't sew, but could follow simple instructions...I think! Thanks, everyone :-)

All you really need to do is measure your tank top and seat lid, add a couple of inches for a casing , leaving a hole to thread through. Get some elastic and thread through casing. Sew closed and put on tank and lid cover.

You could probaby take some old fabric or rags...cut and pin, then take the 'print' off and cut out of the fabric you want to use. Or make a paper pattern. Paper and tape.

I'm really big on doing the paper thing. Just fit your paper onto your lid and use the natural ridges of the parts to mark your paper. Then, you'll need to add more so that it will roll under the edges and a little more so that you can attach or make a casing line to run your string or elastic through.

I'd probably add about 2 inches all the way around the lid plus the maybe an inch an a fourth. I'd turn under the inch and a quarter once, then trun under the edge about 3/8 of an inch. and sttich it down all the way around except for a small opening , that would allow you to feed either string or elastic into the casing (the little area you just created). Be sure that if you use string, you do a good back stitch at the opening. It will get a lot of stress when you pull the string tight.

The tank cover would be determined by how you want to cover it. If it is one piece or two. The best way would be to cover the front and sides, and part of the back with elastic across the very back of the cover making straps across. That would make it fit tightly. You could also make it solid across the back and just have it fit snug. The top I would probably make pretty much flat but in the dimensions of the top, then you could just gather it down with string or elastic through a casing around the outside. That would make a gathered edge but it would be very easy to fit. I'd probably use elastic in the top so that I could pop it off easily. You could always put trim of some sort...lace comes to mind, but it could be almost anything around the edge.
